Results on light dark matter particles with a low-threshold CRESST-II detector [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The CRESST-II experiment uses cryogenic detectors to search for nuclear recoil events induced by the elastic scattering of dark matter particles in CaWO$_4$ crystals. Given the low energy threshold of our detectors in combination with light target nuclei,

The 55Fe half-life measured with a pressurised proportional counter

open access: yesApplied Radiation and Isotopes, 2019
The half-life of 55Fe has been measured accurately by following the decay curve of three sources with a large pressurised proportional counter. An argon(90%)-methane(10%) mixture was used as counter gas, at atmospheric pressure (∼1 × 105 Pa) and at enhanced pressures of 5 × 105 Pa and 8 × 105 Pa (for 1 source), respectively. The first measurements were

Extreme plasticity in the photosystem composition of a low‐light Prochlorococcus ecotype in response to iron and light

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters, Volume 10, Issue 1, Page 82-90, February 2025.
Abstract Light affects the cellular iron (Fe) requirement of phytoplankton because of its presence in major photosynthetic proteins. Thus, interactions between variable Fe concentrations and light intensities could restrict photosynthetic carbon fixation in the ocean.

Method for Determination of 55Fe in Radioactive Used Oil from Nuclear Power Plant

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
55Fe is an important corresponding activation product during the operation of nuclear power plants. 55Fe may be present in the used oil required for main circuit mechanical equipment through cross-contaminating during maintenance activities-including ...

Radiation Tolerance of Fully-Depleted P-Channel CCDs Designed for the SNAP Satellite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Thick, fully depleted p-channel charge-coupled devices (CCDs) have been developed at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). These CCDs have several advantages over conventional thin, n-channel CCDs, including enhanced quantum efficiency and ...

Gan Photonic Crystals: Spectral Dynamics in UV, X‐Ray, and Alpha Radiation

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 1, January 2025.
The study explores GaN photonic crystals, showing enhanced optical responses to UV, X‐ray, and alpha radiation. Integrating these structures triples quantum efficiency compared to plain GaN, improving scintillation and photoluminescence. The results highlight potential applications in radiation detection, medical imaging, and optoelectronics, with ...

Patterns of siderophore production and utilization at Station ALOHA from the surface to mesopelagic waters

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 70, Issue 1, Page 128-145, January 2025.
Abstract The North Pacific subtropical gyre is a globally important contributor to carbon uptake despite being a persistently oligotrophic ecosystem. Supply of the micronutrient iron to the upper ocean varies seasonally to episodically, and when coupled with rapid biological consumption, results in low iron concentrations.

Insights into the role of glycerophospholipids on the iron export function of SLC40A1 and the molecular mechanisms of ferroportin disease

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 38, Issue 13, 15 July 2024.
Questions remain unanswered about the molecular mechanisms of iron export by SLC40A1. Our study highlights the existence of interactions between SLC40A1 and lipids of the plasma membrane. These interactions occur in the vicinity of two charged/polar clusters that play a critical role in the formation of the SLC40A1 inner gate.

Study of a self quenching streamer mode in pure gases of DME and isobutane

open access: yes, 2005
A self quenching streamer (SQS), or limited streamer mode has been studied in single wire chambers with cross-sections 12x12 mm and wire diameters 15, 25 and 50 microns.

An oligo peptide transporter family member, OsOPT7, mediates xylem unloading of Fe for its preferential distribution in rice

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 242, Issue 6, Page 2620-2634, June 2024.
Summary Iron (Fe) needs to be delivered to different organs and tissues of above‐ground parts for playing its multiple physiological functions once it is taken up by the roots. However, the mechanisms underlying Fe distribution are poorly understood.
