Undetected Electron Backscattering in PERKEO III

open access: yes, 2019
The beta asymmetry in neutron beta decay is used to determine the ratio of axial-vector coupling to vector coupling most precisely. In electron spectroscopy, backscattering of electrons from detectors can be a major source of systematic error. We present

CPX‐351 in High‐Risk Relapsed Pediatric Acute Leukemia: Real‐World Phase 1 Data Establishing the FDA‐Approved Dose

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Outcomes for pediatric relapsed/refractory (R/R) acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remain dismal. CPX‐351, a liposomal formulation of cytarabine and daunorubicin, may have less off‐target toxicities than traditional chemotherapies and has shown improved outcomes for adults with newly diagnosed therapy‐related AML.

Adjunctive Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in Refractory Adult‐Onset Still's Disease Complicated by Secondary Macrophage Activation Syndrome: A Single‐Center Experience

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Adult‐onset Still's disease (AOSD) complicated by macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) carries substantial mortality. The role of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) remains uncertain. Methods We retrospectively analyzed patients with AOSD‐MAS treated with TPE at a single‐center.

First They Came for the Unschoolers: A Faircloughian Critical Discourse Analysis of Queensland Home Education Policies. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Unschooling and Alternative Learning, 2019
Increasing numbers of Australian parents, like me, are choosing to home educate. US estimates suggest, within home educated populations, 5 per cent of home education cohorts (Riley, 2018) follow an unschooling, or self-directed education (SDE), approach.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Feasibility of prehospital esmolol for refractory ventricular fibrillation

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Emergency Physicians Open, 2022
Background Esmolol may increase survival for patients with refractory ventricular fibrillation (RVF); however, information related to esmolol use in the prehospital environment is limited.

Exploring opportunities around climate-smart breeding for future food and nutrition security [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
There is a 95% chance that warming will exceed 2°C by the end of the century (Raftery et al. 2017). Global crop productivity is projected to fall by 5-10 % per degree of warming (Challinor et al.

Evolution of the $f\sigma_8$ tension with the Planck15/$\Lambda$CDM determination and implications for modified gravity theories

open access: yes, 2018
We construct an updated extended compilation of distinct (but possibly correlated) $f\sigma_8(z)$ Redshift Space Distortion (RSD) data published between 2006 and 2018.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
