The nucleotide sequence of chicken 5S ribosomal RNA

Journal of Molecular Evolution, 1974
The nucleotide sequence of the 5S ribosomal RNA of somatic cells of the chicken (Gallus gallus) differs from that of other vertebrates thus far examined. Besides base substitutions, alterations include two nucleotide deletions and two additions.

Nucleotide sequence of 5S ribosomal RNA from rainbow trout (Salmo gairdnerii) liver.

Journal of Biochemistry (Tokyo), 1979
Staring from low molecular weight RNA obtained from rainbow trout (Salmo gairdnerii) liver, 5S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) was highly purified by successive chromatography on columns of DEAE-Sephadex A50 and Sephadex G100.

The involvement of 5S RNA in the binding of tRNA to ribosomes

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1973
Abstract The tRNA fragment TpψpCpGp was found to bind to 5S RNA. This binding is ten times increased when a specific 5S RNA-protein complex is used. The ability of TpψpCpGp to bind to the complex could be abolished by selective chemical modification of two adenines in 5S RNA.

Role of 5S ribosomal RNA in polypeptide synthesis

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1969

Eimeria tenella: characterization of a 5S ribosomal RNA repeat unit and its use as a species-specific probe.

Experimental parasitology, 1993
The oocysts of Eimeria tenella, one of the most pathogenic of several species causing chicken coccidiosis, are difficult to distinguish microscopically from several other infective Eimeria species.

Photoregulation of transfer and 5S ribosomal RNA synthesis in Chlorella [PDF]

open access: possiblePlanta, 1977
The effect of blue and red light on the synthesis of transfer and 5S ribosomal RNA in autotrophic cultures of Chlorella pyrenoidosa was studied by pulse labeling experiments with tritiated guanosine. Compared with darkness or red light (679 nm), blue light (457 nm) of low intensities (quantum flux: 0.5-5×10(-10) mol photons cm(-2) s(-1)) stimulated ...

Role of 5S ribosomal RNA in polypeptide synthesis. II. Dissociation of 5S ribosomal RNA from 50S ribosomes in Escherichiacoli

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1968
SOS ribosomes obtained from E. coli were dissociated into 5s rRNA and -44s particles in which at least one of the protein components was missing. Dissociation was produced by dialysis vs. 0.5 M NH4Cl in Mg++-free medium and the resulting 44s particles were isolated by centrifugation through Mg’+-free sucrose solution.

5S ribosomal RNA genes in six species of Mediterranean grey mullets: genomic organization and phylogenetic inference.

Genome, 2007
This paper describes a study of the 5S ribosomal RNA genes (5S rDNA) in a group of 6 species belonging to 4 genera of Mugilidae. In these 6 species, the relatively short 5S rDNA repeat units, generated by PCR and ranging in size from 219 to 257 bp, show ...

Metabolism of 5S RNA in the absence of ribosome production

Cell, 1974
Abstract The results presented in this report show that during early development of Xenopus laevis the synthesis of 5S RNA occurs in blastula embryos, whereas the synthesis of 18S and 28S RNA cannot be detected until gastrulation. Thus the initiation of synthesis of the three ribosomal RNAs is not coordinate during early development.

Characterization of contaminating DNA in Taq polymerase which occurs during amplification with a primer set for Legionella 5S ribosomal RNA.

Molecular and Cellular Probes, 1994
An amplification product that occurred in negative controls of a PCR using a primer system for Legionella 55 ribosomal RNA was characterized by direct sequencing. The amplification product did not hybridize to a Legionella specific oligonucleotide.
