Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

How Does Antimicrobial Stewardship Affect Inappropriate Antibiotic Therapy in Urological Patients?

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2020
Antimicrobial stewardship teams (ASTs) have been well-accepted in recent years; however, their clinical outcomes have not been fully investigated in urological patients.

Correlation of Rupture Life, Creep Rate, and Microstructure for Type 304 Stainless Steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
The stress and temperature sensitivites of the rupture life and secondary creep rate were examined in detail for a single heat of type 304 stainless steel (9T2796).

Variable numerical-aperture temporal-coherence measurement of resonant-cavity LEDs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The first interferometric measurements of temporal-coherence length variation with numerical aperture (NA) are described for 650 nm, resonant-cavity light-emitting diodes (LEDs) agreeing with spectrally derived results.

Tribological Performance of 60NiTi Alloy Under Varying Contact Conditions and Elevated Temperatures in Linear Reciprocating Sliding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the tribological response of 60NiTi alloy under dry, water‐lubricated and high‐temperature conditions. The alloy exhibits decreasing wear volume and friction with increasing temperature due to the formation of protective oxide layers. The work clarifies dominant wear mechanisms and demonstrates the suitability of 60NiTi for high‐

Automated Classification of Baseball Pitching Phases Using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence-Based Posture Estimation

open access: yesApplied Sciences
High-precision analyses of baseball pitching have traditionally relied on optical motion capture systems, which, despite their accuracy, are complex and impractical for widespread use.

Investigating shellfish deposition and landscape history at the Natia Beach site, Fiji [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The relationship between environmental variation and subsistence practices is a central point of discussion in much Oceanic archaeology. While human predation can significantly reduce prey populations, environmental variation also contributes to ...

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Medullary thyroid carcinoma exclusively associated with a homozygous RET V778I pathogenic variant: a case report with review of literature

open access: yesEndocrine Journal
Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) can occur sporadically or as a hereditary disease. The latter often presents with a multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2) phenotype and is caused by germline-activating pathogenic variants in the RET proto-oncogene,

Application of Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy to MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Visible to near infrared luminescence of MgO is studied on MgO‐C bricks and nominally pure MgO powder, with focus on two similar sharp high‐intensity signals, at 699 and 871 nm, each surrounded by symmetrical sidebands. The nature of these sidebands is investigated by temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements, confirming phonon involvement by ...
