Preconditioners For The Reduced Hessian In Elliptic Variational Inequalities
. We show how a class of preconditioners for reduced Hessians in constrained optimization can be applied to certain elliptic variational inequalities.

A Finite Element Method Adaptive in Space and Time for Nonlinear Reaction-Diffusion- Systems.
Large scale combustion simulations show the need for adaptive methods. First, to save computation time and mainly to resolve local and instationary phenomena.

Recently, Tautenhahn and Hämarik (1999) have considered a monotone rule as a parameter choice strategy for choosing the regularization parameter while considering approximate solution of an ill-posed operator equation T x = y, where T is a bounded ...

Convergence Analysis Of Pseudo-Transient Continuation
. Pseudo-transient continuation (\Psitc) is a well-known and physically motivated technique for computation of steady-state solutions of time-dependent partial differential equations.

Truncated Newton Methods For Optimization With Inaccurate Functions And Gradients
. We consider unconstrained minimization problems that have functions and gradients given by "black box" codes with error control. We discuss several modifications of the Steihaug truncated Newton method that can improve performance for such ...

Mesh Independence Of Matrix-Free Methods For Path Following
. In this paper we consider a matrix-free path following algorithm for nonlinear parameter-dependent compact fixed point problems. We show that if these problems are discretized so that certain collective compactness and strong convergence properties ...

A Trust Region Method For Parabolic Boundary Control Problems
. In this paper we develop a trust region algorithm for constrained parabolic boundary control problems. The method is a projected form of the Steihaug trust-region-CG method with a smoothing step added at each iteration to improve performance in the ...
