The relation of spatial skills, spatial memory span, and two anxiety types with statistics anxiety in European and North American University students

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background & Aims The present two studies investigated the role of spatial cognition in statistics anxiety. The hypothesis that spatial representations and/or visuospatial skills are related to the acquisition of statistics abilities which, when lacking or unused, generate statistics anxiety is examined.

Fighting fire with fire: Prebunking with the use of a plausible meta‐conspiracy framing

open access: yesBritish Journal of Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Prebunking can be used to pre‐emptively refute conspiracy narratives. We developed a new approach to prebunking – fighting fire with fire – which introduces a plausible ‘meta‐conspiracy’ suggesting that conspiracy theories are deliberately spread as part of a wider conspiracy.

Identifiability conditions in cognitive diagnosis: Implications for Q‐matrix estimation algorithms

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract The Q‐matrix of a cognitively diagnostic assessment (CDA), documenting the item‐attribute associations, is a key component of any CDA. However, the true Q‐matrix underlying a CDA is never known and must be estimated—typically by content experts.

Bayesian inference for dynamic Q matrices and attribute trajectories in hidden Markov diagnostic classification models

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Hidden Markov diagnostic classification models capture how students' cognitive attributes evolve over time. This paper introduces a Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm for diagnostic classification models that jointly estimates time‐varying Q matrices, latent attributes, item parameters, attribute class proportions and transition ...

FSSteering: A Distributed Framework for Computational Steering in a Script-based CFD Simulation Environment

open access: yes, 2010
In order to get insight into interesting flow phenomena, the traditional work-flow of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) consists of setting up and computing the flow field followed by a consecutive post-processing analysis.

Approximating multidimensionality with asymmetric unidimensional IRT models

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Unidimensional item response theory (IRT) models are widely used even in settings where assessment data exhibit subtle forms of multidimensionality. Recent empirical evidence suggests that when item difficulty is associated with dimensionality, asymmetric item characteristic curves (ICCs) emerge in the unidimensional approximation.

Aerodynamic design optimization using flow feature parameterization

open access: yes, 2007
Design optimization methods using high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics simulations are becoming increasingly popular in the area of aerodynamic design, sustaining the desire to make these methods more computationally efficient.

Composite marginal likelihood estimation of higher‐order diagnostic classification models under high dimensionality

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Although full‐information maximum likelihood (FIML) estimation is widely used for diagnostic classification models (DCMs), its computational efficiency deteriorates sharply in high‐dimensional settings. This scalability challenge is increasingly critical as DCMs are applied to large‐scale assessments, psychological testing and longitudinal ...

An ALE based hybrid meshfree local RBF-cartesian FD scheme for incompressible flow around moving boundaries

open access: yes
A solution scheme is presented to simulate incompressible viscous flow around moving boundaries using hybrid meshfree-Cartesian grid. The presented solution approach avoids intensive re-meshing and enhances computational efficiency by combining the ...

Comparison of high-order methods on unstructured grids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A high-order Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method is formulated and implemented on the Cranfield University’s 3D unstructured Finite Volume Method (FVM) code (UCNS3D), for both linear and non-linear hyperbolic conservation laws and for test-cases which ...
