UPTAKE OF 137Cs AND 90Sr IN RICE PLANTS
Health Physics, 2003In order to study the transfer of water-borne 137Cs and 90Sr into rice plants, pot experiments were done by growing rice plants on soils taken from rice beds near two nuclear power plants: Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant and Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant in China.

Environmental 90Sr measurements
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 199790Sr (T12 = 28.5 years) is a long-lived radionuclide produced in nuclear fission. Fast radiochemical detection of 90Sr in environmental samples is not feasible using current analytical methods. Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) measurements of 90Sr were made with the Rehovot 14UD Pelletron accelerator at a terminal voltage of 11 or 12 MV using our ...

Inventory and vertical migration of 90Sr fallout and 137Cs/90Sr ratio in Spanish mainland soils
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2011In this paper the inventory of (90)Sr in 34 points distributed along the Spanish peninsular territory is presented. Obtained values range between 173 Bq/m(2) and 2047 Bq/m(2). From these data set and those (137)Cs data obtained in a previous work the (137)Cs/(90)Sr activity ratio has been established, laying this value between 0.9 and 3.6.

For a better understanding of the behaviour of90Sr in aquatic systems, this β-emitter has been determined in the different layers of a lake sediment core which has been previously dated using the well established210Pb dating method. For this, a radiochemical technique has been developed for the isolation of strontium from the sediment samples and for ...

Long-term mobility of fallout 90Sr in ploughed soil, and 90Sr uptake by wheat grain
Science of The Total Environment, 2007In this study, we evaluated the mobility of 90Sr in ploughed upland soil, which affects the residual amount in the soil and plant uptake on the basis of long-term monitoring data. Paired samples of soil and wheat grain were taken annually from 1961 to 1995 from 8 agricultural fields in Japan, and the concentrations of exchangeable 90Sr in soil and ...

Biokinetics of 90Sr in Male Nonhuman Primates
Health Physics, 2016The current study tests the hypothesis that the biokinetics of Sr can be represented by simplification of the ICRP publication 78 Sr model. Default and proposed models were evaluated by their ability to predict injected activity and more thoroughly define the activity residing in the skeleton of rhesus monkeys.

Transfer of 90Sr into fish in Finnish lakes
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2009The long-term behavior of (90)Sr was investigated from 1987 to 1997 in fifteen lakes in southern and central Finland following the 1986 Chernobyl accident. Both water and fish samples (perch, pike, vendace) were analyzed. (90)Sr stays long in the freshwater ecosystem; the observed half-lives during the study period were generally around 10 years in ...

The uptake of 90sr by ryegrass
Journal of Nuclear Energy. Part A. Reactor Science, 1959Abstract It is shown that 20 per cent of the ‘fall-out’ 90 Sr deposited in rain can appear in the aerial parts of ryegrass growing during the period of deposition. It is considered that almost all this activity is taken up directly by the leaves, stems and surface roots and not by the roots in the soil.

A Spreadsheet Method for 90Sr and 89Sr Interpretation
Health Physics, 1988A spreadsheet method of handling multiple data points is described for the interpretation of "radiostrontium" analyses. The method uses up to 10 or more counts on one sample, starting 1 d after the chemical separation. The unreliable "day-0" count on a relatively low activity sample is not used since it introduces too many uncertainties. The count data

Determination of 90Sr in Portuguese foodstuffs
Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2010The Nuclear and Technological Institute (ITN) has the legal responsibility to carry out the environmental radiological monitoring at a national level. This survey was planned to provide relevant information on radioactivity levels in different components of the ecosystem.
