Tracking the impact of bottom trawling on benthic habitat status

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Bottom trawling is the most widespread physical disturbance to marine benthic habitats, yet broadscale assessments of its impact remain limited. We developed a quantitative framework to evaluate trawling effects on benthic habitats at broad spatial scales based on the sentinels of seabed (SoS) indicator.

SCD2 Alleviates Diabetes‐Associated Cognitive Dysfunction by Improving Microglial Lipid Metabolism

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
This study reveals a novel mechanism of microglial metabolic dysfunction in diabetic cognitive impairment. Defective SCD2 disrupts monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) metabolism, triggering mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation dysfunction and leading to abnormal lipid droplet accumulation (marked by PLIN2).

Greater Glycaemic Responses to Bodyweight Change in South Asians Than White Europeans at High Risk of Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims Bodyweight change is an important determinant of cardiometabolic health, but its metabolic impact may differ by ethnicity. This study investigated whether ethnicity (White European, South Asian) modifies the association between change in bodyweight and changes in HbA1c and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT)–derived measures.
