High level of interleukin-10 in serum predicts poor prognosis in multiple myeloma

open access: yesBritish Journal of Cancer, 2016
Background:Interleukin-10 (IL-10) is a inhibiting inflammatory cytokine that plays an important role in immune suppressive microenvironment in multiple myeloma (MM).

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Feedback control of the COVID-19 outbreak based on active disturbance rejection control

open access: yesApplied Mathematics in Science and Engineering
The outbreak of COVID-19 causes a serious threat to human health and life around the world and puts enormous pressure on the healthcare system. The lockdown policy has effectively reduced the number of cases and suppressed the spread of the COVID-19 ...

Chern-Simons-fermion model of quarks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We propose an extension of the standard model where quarks are viewed as fermions with a ``bare'' integer (weak) hypercharge which is normalized with a fractional part created by a quantized topological Chern-Simons configuration of the weak gauge fields.

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Integrated genomic and proteomic profiling reveals insights into chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.

Study of transmission pattern of COVID-19 among cardiac and noncardiac population using a nonlinear mathematical model

open access: yesComputational and Mathematical Biophysics
Recent studies have intensified the risk of post-COVID-19 cardiovascular diseases. In an effort to understand the intricate dynamics of COVID-19 infection, this article suggests a four-compartment model to portray the dynamic interplay between the ...

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.
