Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Lymphopenia predicts disease severity of COVID-19: a descriptive and predictive study

open access: yesSignal Transduction and Targeted Therapy, 2020
Background: Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is a rapidly escalating epidemic caused by SARS-CoV-2. Identification of a simple and effective indicator to assess disease severity and outcome is urgently needed.

CUSTOMER ACCESS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (CAIT) DEPLOYMENT EVALUATION [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Customer access information technology offers great potential benefits to both the organization and its customers. However, managers lack methods for evaluating these technologies and determining whether conditions exist for success.

Jaapani entsefaliit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Jaapani entsefaliidi viirus ( JEV) isoleeriti 1935. aastal Jaapanis, kuid suviseid haiguspuhanguid oli seal kirjeldatud juba 19. sajandil (1). Vaktsiini väljatöötamine 1960ndatel peaaegu kõrvaldas Jaapani entsefaliidi ( JE) Koreas, Jaapanis ja Taiwanis ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

A Utility-Based Rate Allocation of M2M Service in Heterogeneous Wireless Environments

open access: yesInternational Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, 2013
This paper presents a dynamic adaptive machine-to-machine (M2M) service rate allocation scheme for optimum traffic distribution in heterogeneous wireless environments (HWEs). According to the M2M service characteristics, it proposes the utility function,

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...
