Null controllability of a nonlinear heat equation

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, Volume 7, Issue 7, Page 375-383, 2002., 2002
We study the internal exact null controllability of a nonlinear heat equation with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition. The method used combines the Kakutani fixed‐point theorem and the Carleman estimates for the backward adjoint linearized system. The result extends to the case of boundary control.

On convergence of infinite matrix products with alternating factors from two sets of matrices

open access: yes, 2018
We consider the problem of convergence to zero of matrix products $A_{n}B_{n}\cdots A_{1}B_{1}$ with factors from two sets of matrices, $A_{i}\in\mathscr{A}$ and $B_{i}\in\mathscr{B}$, due to a suitable choice of matrices $\{B_{i}\}$.

Null controllability of a thermoelastic plate

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, Volume 7, Issue 11, Page 585-599, 2002., 2002
Thermoelastic plate model with a control term in the thermal equation is considered. The main result in this paper is that with thermal control, locally distributed within the interior and square integrable in time and space, any finite energy solution can be driven to zero at the control time T.

A Semigroup associated to a linear control system on a Lie group

open access: yes, 2016
Let us consider a linear control system \Sigma on a connected Lie group G. It is known that the accessibility set A from the identity e is in general not a semigroup. In this article we associate a new algebraic object S to \Sigma which turns out to be a

Lack of controllability of the heat equation with memory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We consider a model for the heat equation with memory, which has infinite propagation speed, like the standard heat equation. We prove that, in spite of this, for every T > 0 there exist square integrable initial data which cannot be steered to hit zero ...

Approximate controllability of neutral functional differential system with unbounded delay

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Volume 26, Issue 12, Page 737-744, 2001., 2001
We consider a class of control systems governed by the neutral functional differential equation with unbounded delay and study the approximate controllability of the system. An example is given to illustrate the result.

Empirical balanced truncation of nonlinear systems

open access: yes, 2006
Novel constructions of empirical controllability and observability gramians for nonlinear systems for subsequent use in a balanced truncation style of model reduction are proposed.

Controllability of semilinear stochastic evolution equations in Hilbert space

open access: yesInternational Journal of Stochastic Analysis, Volume 14, Issue 4, Page 329-339, 2001., 2001
Controllability of semilinear stochastic evolution equations is studied by using stochastic versions of the well‐known fixed point theorem and semigroup theory. An application to a stochastic partial differential equation is given.

Local exact controllability of the age‐dependent population dynamics with diffusion

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, Volume 6, Issue 6, Page 357-368, 2001., 2001
We investigate the local exact controllability of a linear age and space population dynamics model where the birth process is nonlocal. The methods we use combine the Carleman estimates for the backward adjoint system, some estimates in the theory of parabolic boundary value problems in L k and the Banach fixed point theorem.
