Skeletal pathologies in extant crocodilians as a window into the paleopathology of fossil archosaurs

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Crocodilians, together with birds, are the only extant relatives to many extinct archosaur groups, making them highly important for interpreting paleopathological conditions in a phylogenetic disease bracketing model. Despite this, comprehensive data on osteopathologies in crocodilians remain scarce.

An unusual titanosaur axis from the Upper Cretaceous of Brazil and its significance for sauropod anatomy and systematics

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The Upper Cretaceous São José do Rio Preto Formation (Bauru Group, southeastern Brazil) has yielded a fragmentary but taxonomically diverse record of titanosaur sauropods, although elements from cervical series remain scarce. Here, we describe a nearly complete sauropod axis from the Vila Ventura Paleontological Area, representing an uncommon ...

Preferência alimentar de Phaedon confinis Klug (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) frente a quatro espécies de Senecio (Asteraceae) de interesse pecuário

open access: yesEntomoBrasilis, 2014
Uma das principais causas de mortalidade em bovinos está relacionada à intoxicação por plantas de Senecio spp. (Asteraceae). Assim, alternativas para a redução dessas plantas na região sul do Brasil são necessárias a fim de diminuir as perdas na ...

Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

The Case of the Missing Green Iguana Predators: Reviews of Ecological Literature Should Go Beyond Google Scholar

open access: yesThe Bulletin of the Ecological Society of America, EarlyView.
Abstract Knowing about species interactions is essential for ecological research, conservation efforts, resource management, and maintaining healthy ecosystems, but many of these, such as reports of predation, may not always be published in easily located resources—if they are published at all.

Taxonomic and functional microbial signatures of the endemic marine sponge Arenosclera brasiliensis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
The endemic marine sponge Arenosclera brasiliensis (Porifera, Demospongiae, Haplosclerida) is a known source of secondary metabolites such as arenosclerins A-C. In the present study, we established the composition of the A.

Subterranean environments contribute to three‐quarters of classified ecosystem services

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Beneath the Earth's surface lies a network of interconnected caves, voids, and systems of fissures forming in rocks of sedimentary, igneous, or metamorphic origin. Although largely inaccessible to humans, this hidden realm supports and regulates services critical to ecological health and human well‐being.

Post‐Additional Proteins into Rubber Matrices Behave as Filler to Reinforce Rubber

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
The post‐additional proteins exhibit a reinforcement effect regardless of the origin of the rubber. The proteins are lyophilized to obtain a powder, which is then incorporated into the rubber matrices using a solution‐mixing process. These findings suggest that protein can function as a reinforcing filler depending on the rubber preparation process ...

Latex Serum‐Derived Supramolecular Networks Enable Toughening of Natural Rubber

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Latex‐serum addition enhances strain‐induced crystallization (SIC) toughening in natural rubber, increasing tearing strength and extending the SIC activation window. Supramolecular networks form via bifurcated hydrogen bonding between polyol components (e.g., quebrachitol) and end‐functionalized polyisoprene chains, serving as effective crystallization

The influence of carbohydrates in the interaction of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis with CCL-6 cells in vitro

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 2012
INTRODUCTION: Little is known about the early events in the interaction between Paracoccidioides brasiliensis and its host. To understand the effect of carbohydrates in the interaction between the fungus and epithelial cell in culture, we analyzed the ...
