Isopod feces–mediated shifts in germination timing enhance seedling establishment

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 4, Page 1909-1919, February 2026.
Summary Seedlings are particularly vulnerable to herbivory because their defenses are underdeveloped and their capacity to tolerate damage is limited. However, how seedlings cope with such threats remains poorly understood. Animal feces may provide important chemical cues that influence plant responses to herbivory.

Assessment of Central Sensitivity Syndrome and Sensory Processing Sensitivity: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Volume 1556, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT The association between central sensitivity syndrome (CSS) and sensory processing sensitivity (SPS) demonstrates the need for assessment tools that quantify the physical and psychological alterations observed in these two conditions in order to generate multidisciplinary treatments and establish their effectiveness.

The neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio as a marker of immunosenescence and COVID‐19 outcomes in the elderly: A narrative review

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 3, February 2026.
Abstract Older adults are highly vulnerable to severe COVID‐19. Unlike our previous work on broad immunosenescence, this review focuses on peripheral hematological markers as practical indicators of risk. To examine lymphopenia, neutrophilia, and the neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) as clinically accessible markers of immune aging and COVID‐19 ...

Changes in expectation impact multiple steps of the visual perceptual decision process in adults

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 3, February 2026.
Abstract Perceptual decision‐making processes, particularly in the context of eye movements and reaction times (RT), have been studied to better understand how the brain integrates and responds to sensory information. Recent models have decomposed the process into multiple intermediate steps, including detection, instruction processing, decision, and ...
