A Posteriori Error Estimator for Obstacle Problems

SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 2010
In this paper, we consider a posteriori error estimators for obstacle problems. The variational inequality is reformulated as a mixed problem in terms of a discrete nodewise defined but variationally consistent Lagrange multiplier. Locally defined equilibrated fluxes and an $H(\mathrm{div})$-conforming lifting define our estimator.

A-Posteriori Estimation Of The Error

2001
Abstract In Chapters 3 and 4, we analyzed the properties of the Finite Element Method. We have shown that the finite element solution converges to the exact solution by establishing asymptotic estimates for the energy norm, the L2 norm, and various other norms of the error.

A Posteriori Error Estimation

2010
The error analysis for the Galerkin discretization exhibits the asymptotic conver- 3 gence rates for the boundary element method which depend on the regularity of the 4 underlying integral equation. These estimates are called a priori estimates because 5 they hold for large classes of problems which are characterized by their regular- 6 ity.

A posteriori error estimation

Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 1990
We present a summary of error estimation and adaptivity techniques and concepts. We also present the major types of refinement or adaptation strategies. In Section 3, we discuss the need for efficiency in large- scale, time-dependent problems and discuss recent effective local spatial and temporal adaptive strategies for these problems. We then discuss

A Posteriori Error Estimates for Nonstationary Problems

2016
We apply continuous and discontinuous Galerkin time discretization together with standard finite element method for space discretization to the heat equation. For the numerical solution arising from these discretizations we present a guaranteed and fully computable a posteriori error upper bound.

A Posteriori Error Estimators for a Class of Variational Inequalities

Journal of Scientific Computing, 2000
The finite element approximation of obstacle problems is considered. Triangular elements are used for the approximation of the corresponding variational inequality. A posteriori error estimators with different regularity assumptions on the boundary conditions are derived. In two numerical examples the application of the error estimator to adaptive mesh

A Posteriori Error Estimates in Iterative Procedures

SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, 1973
In many cases a rough theoretical a priori error estimate allows one to obtain a relatively good a posteriori estimate. The paper deals first with a very general method in the case of general metric spaces and proceeds then to the more detailed discussion of iterative procedures in the case of systems of linear equations.

A POSTERIORI ERROR ESTIMATION IN BIOMEDICAL IMAGING

2007 4th IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging: From Nano to Macro, 2007
We present an adaptive hybrid FEM/FDM method for an inverse scattering problem in scanning acoustic microscopy with a special focus on new application in medical imaging. The problem takes the form of reconstructing an unknown sound velocity c(x) from boundary displacement data measured in acoustic microscopy in order to obtain the pathological defects
