Source rock potential of the Early Cretaceous intervals in the Darquain field, Abadan Plain, Zagros Basin, SW Iran

open access: yesGeosciences Journal, 2018
The Darquain field is located in the Abadan Plain SW Iran, which has a high potential for exploration and production of hydrocarbon resources with poorly defined petroleum systems. The goal of this paper is to characterize the Cretaceous source rock potential in the Darquain field.

Depositional environments and sequence stratigraphy of the Sarvak Formation in an oil field in the Abadan Plain, SW Iran

Facies, 2016
The late Albian–early Turonian Sarvak Formation is the most important carbonate reservoir of the Abadan Plain, SW Iran. Twelve microfacies were identified, representing six facies belts: lagoon, shoal, rudist biostrome, slope, proximal, and distal open marine.

Geochemical investigation of oils from Cretaceous to Eocene sedimentary sequences of the Abadan Plain, Southwest Iran

Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2016
Abstract Oil samples from Lower Cretaceous to Eocene reservoirs in southwest Iran were analyzed using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry and gas chromatography–isotope ratio mass spectrometry for genetic classification of oil families and determining their maturity. The Studied oil samples are non-biodegraded and their gravity range from 18.3 to 37°

Inversion Tectonics and Spectral Analyses for Detecting Reservoir Extensional System - Example from the Abadan Plain, South-West Iran

open access: yesProceedings, 2011
The Abadan plain has important petroleum reservoir potential but poorly defined structural setting. The main reservoir in this field is the Fahliyan formation, composed of reef carbonates.

Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous Source-Rock Evaluation and Oil—Source Rock Correlation in the Abadan Plain, Southwest Iran

Geochemistry International, 2019
Eight oil samples from Lower Cretaceous Fahliyan reservoirs and 51 core and cutting samples from Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous Garau Formation in Abadan Plain, Southern Iran, were analyzed using bulk property and molecular methods in order to identify their geochemical characteristics such as maturity and source depositional environment, as well as ...

Interaction of the Zagros Fold–Thrust Belt and the Arabian-type, deep-seated folds in the Abadan Plain and the Dezful Embayment,SW Iran

Petroleum Geoscience, 2006
The Dezful Embayment and Abadan Plain (SW Iran) contain major parts of the remaining Iranian oil reserves. These oil provinces are characterized by two types of structural closure: very gentle N–S- to NE–SW-trending basement-cored anticlines (Arabian-type highs) in the SE; and open to tight, NW–SE-trending thrust-related folds in the NE (Zagros Fold ...

Integrated Petrophysical and Heterogeneity Assessment of the Karstified Fahliyan Formation in the Abadan Plain, Iran

Natural Resources Research, 2023
This study aimed to investigate the petrophysical properties and heterogeneity rate of the Fahliyan Formation in the Abadan Plain, southwestern Iran. Thin section slides, core analysis results, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and computed tomography (CT) images were studied in association with petrophysical log data to describe pore types ...
