Abstract Located in the northeast of the Arabian Plate, Zagros Basin hosts some of the most significant hydrocarbon reservoirs in Iran, including the Sarvak Formation. It has been dated back to the Middle Cretaceous and exhibits a dominantly carbonate lithology. In this study, petrographic and petrophysical data of the Sarvak Formation were analyzed.

AbstractCrude oil and source rock samples from one of the main oilfields of the Abadan Plain, Zagros, Iran were analyzed geochemically. Rock‐Eval pyrolysis was conducted on Kazhdumi (Upper Cretaceous) and Gadvan (Lower Cretaceous) formations, which are the probable source rocks for the oil in the region.

Present-day stress characterisation in the Abadan Plain, Southwestern Iran
Journal of Asian Earth SciencesThis study investigates the in-situ stress field of the Abadan Plain Basin, southwestern Iran. The Abadan Plain, unlike the surrounding areas in Zagros Fold-and-Thrust Belt, is characterised by low seismicity and a lack of surface anticlines. In this study, borehole data, including wireline logs, laboratory results of rock mechanics on core samples ...

Geochemistry and origins of Sarvak oils in Abadan plain: oil-oil correlation and migration studies
Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, 2019An evaluation of the petroleum generating of candidate Upper Jurassic-Cretaceous sequences of Abadan Plain and Mesopotamian basin was performed based on Rock-Eval pyrolysis.

Abstract There are several source rock units in the Zagros Basin. Nevertheless, the Cretaceous Kazhdumi formation has presumably produced the majority of the commercial hydrocarbons in this area. The presence of organic matter rich and thermally mature rock units containing oil or gas prone kerogen is the key factor controlling the hydrocarbon ...

The Fahliyan Formation of Khami Group is hosting important hydrocarbon reserves in Iran and also is a main reservoir rock in the Abadan Plain oil fields which is Neocomian in age. In the studied wells its thickness is about 406 meters. In the Abadan Plain, the Fahliyan Formation transitionally overlies of the Garau Formation and its upper boundary ...

ABSTRACT The Sarvak Formation, a major Cretaceous carbonate reservoir in the Zagros Basin, Iran, exhibits significant heterogeneity controlled by variations in depositional facies characteristics, diagenetic alterations, and accommodation spaces. This study integrates core analysis, petrography, well logs, hydraulic flow units (HFUs),
