Laparoscopy in the acute abdomen [PDF]

open access: yesBest Practice & Research Clinical Gastroenterology, 2014
Laparoscopy has become a routine procedure in the management of acute abdominal disease and can be considered both an excellent therapeutic and additional diagnostic tool in selected cases. However, a high level of expertise in laparoscopic and emergency surgery is required.

Unusual Cause of Acute Abdomen—Ruptured Retroperitoneal Paraganglioma

open access: yes, 2008
Ruptured retroperitoneal paraganglioma is a rare cause of acute abdomen. Its clinical presentation and laparoscopic features have seldom been reported in the literature. Herein, we report a case of ruptured retroperitoneal paraganglioma that presented as

Reprogramming tumor cells with LCOR mRNA nanotherapy to enhance immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LCOR (Ligand‐dependent corepressor) mRNA encapsulated in polymeric nanoparticles restores LCOR activity in tumor cells, constraining aggressive tumor cell states and increasing tumor immunogenicity. This reprogramming makes tumor cells more vulnerable to T‐cell attack and enhances their response to immune‐checkpoint immunotherapy.

Machine learning-based integration of DCE-MRI radiomics for STAT3 expression prediction and survival stratification in breast cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
ObjectiveTo explore the association between signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) expression, tumor immune microenvironment, and overall survival (OS) in breast cancer, and to develop a non-invasive radiomics model for early risk ...

Tumour‐proximal deep serum proteomics identifies biomarkers associated with ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
New biomarkers are needed for early ovarian cancer detection. Ovarian (tumour‐proximal) and peripheral vein serum from healthy women and patients with benign or malignant tumours underwent nanoparticle‐enriched deep proteomics. Ovarian serum yielded more protein identifications and revealed tumour‐reflective signatures.

Ultrasonography in the acute abdomen

open access: yesJournal of British Surgery, 1991
Abstract In a prospective study 152 consecutive patients presenting with acute abdominal pain were assessed clinically and an ultrasonographic examination was performed immediately. Of these, 16 (11 per cent) patients would normally have had an immediate ultrasonographic scan requested; routine (within 24 h of admission) ultrasonographic

KDAC6 alters cell morphology and motility through positive and negative modulation of F‐actin distribution

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KDAC6 has been associated with cell motility and actin structures, but specific domain contributions are not established. The two catalytic domains have differential effects on motility and F‐actin regulation, affecting cortical F‐actin density, motility, stress fibers, and cell spreading.
