Role of forest edges and other seminatural linear landscape features in structuring wild bee habitat connectivity in intensively managed landscapes

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 6, December 2025.
Abstract Pollinator conservation schemes typically focus on conserving existing, restoring degraded, or creating new wild bee habitats. Their effectiveness depends on dispersal corridors enabling habitat colonization by bees. However, the role of seminatural linear landscape structures (LLS) in connecting pollinator communities across intensively ...

Bee Body Size and Foraging Behavior Predict the Pollination Role of Bees in a Buzz‐Pollinated Plant Community

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2025.
We investigated how bee traits influence pollination success in a buzz‐pollinated plant community. Larger body size and floral sonication strongly predicted stigma contact, a proxy for pollination efficiency, while longer handling times were associated with reduced effectiveness.

Distinct Intra‐ and Interspecific Foraging Patterns of Stingless Bee Species as a Conservation Tool

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 5, September 2025.
In this study, we examined the foraging patterns of three rescued stingless bee species in the Bolivian Yungas using melissopalynology and plant–pollinator network analysis. We found distinct floral foraging patterns both within and among three stingless bee species in the Bolivian Yungas, suggesting niche partitioning at multiple levels.

open access: yesHistoria Ambiental Latinoamericana y Caribeña, 2018

Ants on flowers: Protective ants impose a low but variable cost to pollination, moderated by location of extrafloral nectaries and type of flower visitor

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 8, Page 2187-2198, August 2025.
Individuals who engage in multiple mutualisms often have to pay indirect costs because of the interference of one mutualism on another. We found that protective ants had a low but variable impact on pollination, especially on the flower visitation by bees and when EFNs are close to inflorescences.

Integrating data to assess occupancy patterns of an endangered bumble bee

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 4, August 2025.
Abstract There is growing interest in integrating community science data with structured monitoring data to estimate changes in distribution patterns of imperiled species, including pollinators. However, significant challenges remain in determining how unstructured community science data should be incorporated into formal analyses of species ...

Superinfection Exclusion in Neotropical Honey Bees May Block DWV‐B, an Emerging Infectious Disease Variant of Deformed Wing Virus

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 18, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT RNA viruses often comprise multiple variants that co‐circulate in a host population, with potentially complex dynamics. Deformed wing virus (DWV), arguably the most impactful virus of honey bees (Apis mellifera), nowadays exists as two major variants, genotypes A (DWV‐A) and B (DWV‐B), which provide an amenable window into the dynamics of ...
