Revisiting Ontology to Reshape Transgenerational Justice

open access: yesGlobal Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article develops a philosophical framework for understanding transgenerationality as a foundational concept for intergenerational justice. Drawing on social ontology and the philosophy of action, it introduces the notion of transgenerational civitas—a temporally extended community composed of past, present and future generations.

Low‐Carbon Transition and Active Management: Evidence From Emerging Market Funds

open access: yesBusiness Ethics, the Environment &Responsibility, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Previous literature finds mixed evidence on the performance of emerging mutual funds and how investors are becoming more aware of investing in companies involved in low‐carbon emission activities. Given the opportunities that emerging markets and sustainable investing offer to active management, this study aims to fill a gap in the literature ...

Navigating through uncertainty—Experience from the UK national VEXAS MDT

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
Summary The objective of this study was to describe the establishment, structure and influence of the United Kingdom national multidisciplinary team (MDT) for vacuoles, E1 enzyme, X‐linked, autoinflammatory, somatic (VEXAS) syndrome and to assess its clinical outputs and perceived value among participating clinicians.

Dust Universes in Higher Dimensions with Gauss–Bonnet Corrections

open access: yesUniverse
We study dust models in higher-dimensional general relativity and the Einstein–Gauss–Bonnet theory in a maximally symmetric spacetime. We show that the dynamics of the model is governed by an Abel differential equation of the second kind.

Differential segment‐specific signalling pathways for guanylate cyclase C‐activated anion secretion in murine ileocolon

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Guanylate cyclase‐C (GC‐C) is the receptor for endogenous (uro)guanylin peptides, bacterial toxins and pharmacological analogues. Receptor activation leads to intestinal fluid loss, but also activates an antiproliferative pathway and is a promising target in colorectal cancer therapy.

Single‐Cell Analysis Identified a Recurrent Malignant‐Associated Transcriptional State in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Colorectal cancer (CRC) shows high molecular heterogeneity, yet single‐cell data from Japanese patients are limited. We performed scRNA‐seq on tumors and adjacent normal tissues from four Japanese CRC patients and identified a shared malignant cell cluster with high KCNQ1OT1 expression and reduced RASSF6 levels.

Brain Drain and Productivity Growth: Evidence From South Africa, 1947–2019

open access: yesEconomics of Transition and Institutional Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper provides empirical evidence of how high‐level human capital outflow could affect TFP‐based economic development and vice versa. The concern of potential endogeneity between brain drain and economic development is addressed directly.

The status of thegn in late Anglo‐Saxon England

open access: yesEarly Medieval Europe, EarlyView.
This article considers how the term ‘thegn’ was used in tenth‐ and eleventh‐century England. Although commonly thought to indicate members of a face‐to‐face service aristocracy with specific attributes, it has resisted close definition. Examination of references to anonymous thegns in administrative and legal texts suggests that the people meant were ...

SARS‐CoV‐2 nucleocapsid protein variants have differential RNA chaperone activity

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
The SARS‐CoV‐2 nucleocapsid (N) protein facilitates RNA annealing through its RBD–IDR2–CTD region, identifying it as a functional RNA chaperone. The Omicron BA.5 variant shows reduced chaperone activity compared to the Wuhan wild‐type protein. Although phosphorylation has no effect on wild‐type N, phosphomimetic modification of BA.5 N restores its RNA ...

Constant invariant solutions of the Poincare center-focus problem

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2010
We consider the classical Poincare problem $$ frac{dx}{dt}=-y-p(x,y),quad frac{dy}{dt}=x+q(x,y) $$ where $p,q$ are homogeneous polynomials of degree $n geq 2$.
