Ants on flowers: Protective ants impose a low but variable cost to pollination, moderated by location of extrafloral nectaries and type of flower visitor

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 8, Page 2187-2198, August 2025.
Individuals who engage in multiple mutualisms often have to pay indirect costs because of the interference of one mutualism on another. We found that protective ants had a low but variable impact on pollination, especially on the flower visitation by bees and when EFNs are close to inflorescences.

The University Sector Has Become More Application‐Oriented: Evidence From Course Descriptions Using Text Analysis for the Case of Higher Education in Denmark

open access: yesHigher Education Quarterly, Volume 79, Issue 3, July 2025.
ABSTRACT In this article, we analyse changes in the language use to describe the content of higher education in Denmark between 2014 and 2021. Based on text analysis of course descriptions of every university course in Denmark, we show steady growth in the use of applied, practical and vocationally oriented terminology. This trend is not only driven by

Phenotypic, Floristic, and Anthropogenic Drivers of the Pollen Niche of Amazonian Stingless Bees

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 3, May 2025.
The pollen diversity and composition collected by Amazonian stingless bees depend on their body mass, tree composition, and urbanization. Further, bees have been collecting fewer pollen types since the 1970s. ABSTRACT Stingless bees (Apidae: Meliponini) are major pollinators in the tropics, supporting key ecosystem services.

Host‐Cleptoparasite Biogeographical Congruence Through Time: The Case of Cuckoo Oil Bees

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Insect brood parasites (i.e., cleptoparasites), like cuckoo bees, typically attack hosts within specific lineages, but seem to be less constrained by the biogeographical movements of their hosts compared to obligate parasites. Cuckoo bees depend on stable host populations, being particularly sensitive to environmental changes and thus ...
