Ablation of Solids by Femtosecond Lasers: Ablation Mechanism and Ablation Thresholds for Metals and Dielectrics [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Plasmas, 2002
The mechanism of ablation of solids by intense femtosecond laser pulses is described in an explicit analytical form. It is shown that at high intensities when the ionization of the target material is complete before the end of the pulse, the ablation mechanism is the same for both metals and dielectrics. The physics of this new ablation regime involves

Photopolymers designed for laser ablation – photochemical ablation mechanism

Applied Surface Science, 1998
Abstract We have designed photopolymers based on a photolabile chromophore with absorption properties tailored for a specific irradiation wavelength. The introduction of the two photolabile groups (–NN–N) into one repetition unit of the main polymer chain results in a well-defined decomposition pathway. The exothermic decomposition mechanism yields

Mechanisms of Ventricular Arrhythmias and Implications for Catheter Ablation

Cardiac Electrophysiology Clinics, 2022
Ventricular arrhythmias present with a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations, from mildly symptomatic frequent premature ventricular contractions to life-threatening events. Pathophysiologically, idiopathic ventricular arrhythmias occur in the absence of structural heart disease or ion channelopathies.

Radiofrequency Ablation: Mechanism of Action and Devices

Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, 2010
Since the first radiofrequency (RF) ablation description in early 1990's for percutaneous tumor ablation, there has been considerable published data on the subject worldwide. An understanding of RF ablation equipment, mechanism of action and its interactions with tissue is critical to avoid complications and improve patient outcomes.

Mechanism of incongruent ablation of SrTiO3

Journal of Applied Physics, 1998
At low fluences, the [Sr]/[Ti] ratio of laser deposited SrTiO3 films appears to be a function of the laser fluence. The deviation from stoichiometry is remarkably constant in time. From an analysis of both the composition of the film and the irradiated target, we deduce a volume-diffusion-assisted preferential ablation process.

Mechanism of laser ablation – Ablation process and debris formation

ICALEO '93: Proceedings of the Laser Materials Processing Conference, 1993
In this paper the mechanism of excimer laser ablation of Si3N4 ceramics is analyzed. An image intensifier with minimum gate time of 3 ns was used for observing time resolved behavior of the plasma plume and the particles produced during ablation process in various ambient gas species and pressures.

Ablation Mechanisms in Plastics With Inorganic Reinforcement

ARS Journal, 1961
Experimental and theoretical studies are described which clarify the nature and importance of the chemical and physical processes tha t occur in the ablation of these materials. Products and amount of gas from resin pyrolysis are determined from tube furnace tests, the rate of the process is inferred, heat effects are measured by calorimetric methods ...
