Ablation threshold and ablation mechanism transition of polyoxymethylene irradiated by CO_2 laser
Applied Optics, 2016Polyoxymethylene (POM) decomposes gradually as it is heated up by the irradiation of CO2 laser; the long-chain molecules of POM are broken into short chains, which leads to the lowering of the melting point and the critical temperature of the ablation products.

Mechanism of Action of Radiofrequency Ablation
2021Understanding the mechanism of radiofrequency (RF) can optimize pain management and patient selection, prevent complications, and help design clinical trials in pain medicine. This chapter reviews the principles of nerve damage, physics of RF types, various mechanisms of action proposed for the RF, and areas of need for future studies.

Laser ablation of a platinum target in water. I. Ablation mechanisms
Journal of Applied Physics, 2006This is the first in a series of three papers aimed at better understanding the processes that lead to nanomaterial formation during laser ablation of solid targets in liquids. Here we study the variation of the target surface morphology versus laser fluence and wavelength in order to suggest an ablation mechanism.

Mechanical Ablation of Larval Zebrafish Spinal Cord
2023Unlike mammals, adult and larval zebrafish exhibit robust regeneration following traumatic spinal cord injury. This remarkable regenerative capacity, combined with exquisite imaging capabilities and an abundance of powerful genetic techniques, has established the zebrafish as an important vertebrate model for the study of neural regeneration.

Effect of ablation pattern on mechanical function in the atrium
Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, 2017AbstractBackgroundAtrial fibrillation (AF) is often treated with catheter ablation, which induces scar formation to isolate misfiring electrical signals in the left atrium. Successful ablation restores sinus rhythm at the cost of replacing viable myocardium with scar.

Endovenous Laser Ablation: A Review of Mechanisms of Action
Annals of Vascular Surgery, 2012The aim of this article is to summarize and review the proposed theories on the laser action during endovenous ablation.Laser mechanics and laser-tissue interaction are summarized from articles found in literature. Several theories, like the "steam bubble theory," the "direct contact theory," the "heat pipe," and "direct light energy absorption" are ...

Mechanism of laser ablation in an absorbing fluid field
Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 1988AbstractSelection of a laser source for intravascular applications has frequently been predicated upon assumptions involving transmissability in blood of the wavelength of light emitted by a given laser. Standard absorption curves for ultraviolet radiation in blood and infrared radiation in water would suggest that transmission of ultraviolet radiation

Thermo-Mechanical Coupling for Ablation
2018In order to investigate the thermal stress and expansion as well as the associated strain effect on material properties caused by high temperature and large temperature gradient, a two-way thermo-mechanical coupling solver is developed. This solver integrates a new structural response module to the Kentucky Aerothermodynamics and Thermal response ...

Laser Ablation to Probe the Epithelial Mechanics in Drosophila
2016Laser ablation is nowadays a widespread technique to probe tissue mechanics during development. Here we describe the setup of one such ablation system and ablation experiments performed on the embryo and pupa of Drosophila. We describe in detail the process of sample preparation, how to disrupt single-cell junctions and perform linear or circular cuts ...

Permanent Mechanical Catheter Ablation of an Accessory Pathway in a Child
Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, 1996Permanent mechanical ablation of an accessory atrioventricular pathway was observed in an infant during intracavitary electrophysiological mapping. The persistent lack of preexcitation was confirmed during a 15‐month follow‐up period.
