Cyclic Ablation Properties of C/SiC-ZrC Composites

open access: yesAerospace
To reveal the ablation performance of C/SiC-ZrC composites under different ablation modes, C/SiC-ZrC composites were prepared using chemical vapor deposition, precursor infiltration, and pyrolysis. Single ablation and cyclic ablation tests were conducted

Enhancing Ablation Resistance of TaB2-Based Ultra-High Temperature Ceramics by Mixing Fine TaC Particles and Dispersed Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes. [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials (Basel)
Ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTCs) have been widely applied in many fields. In order to enhance the comprehensive properties of TaB2-based UHTCs, the first collaborative use of fine TaC particles and dispersed multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs ...

Reduction of DILP2 in Drosophila triages a metabolic phenotype from lifespan revealing redundancy and compensation among DILPs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The insulin/IGF-like signalling (IIS) pathway has diverse functions in all multicellular organisms, including determination of lifespan. The seven insulin-like peptides (DILPs) in Drosophila are expressed in a stage- and tissue-specific manner.

Efficient fabrication of light Cf/SiHfBOC composites with excellent thermal shock resistance and ultra-high-temperature ablation up to 1800 °C

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics, 2023
In this paper, a high-yield Hf-modified SiHfBOC ceramic precursor was developed, and a high-pressure assisted impregnation pyrolysis method was proposed to achieve the preparation of 3D PyC–Cf/SiHfBOC composites.

Renal sympathetic nerve ablation for treatment‐resistant hypertension [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 2013
Hypertension is a major risk factor for increased cardiovascular events with accelerated sympathetic nerve activity implicated in the pathogenesis and progression of disease. Blood pressure is not adequately controlled in many patients, despite the availability of effective pharmacotherapy.

A comparison of glacier melt on debris-covered glaciers in the northern and southern Caucasus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The glacier coverage in the Caucasus Mountains underwent considerable changes during the last decades. In some regions, the observed reduction in glacier area is comparable to those in the European Alps and the extent of supra-glacial debris increased on

Nd:YAG Laser Ablation and Acid Resistance of Enamel

open access: yesDental Materials Journal, 2003
The acid resistance of Nd:YAG laser-ablated enamel surfaces was studied by evaluating crystal structure, mineral distribution, and fluorescence radiance and image in the present study. For comparison, 37% phosphoric acid etching was performed. The formation of beta-tricalcium phosphate (beta-TCP) was confirmed in the laser-ablated surface.

Effect of solid oxidation products on the ablation mechanisms of ZrC and HfC based coatings above 2000°C

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Solid and liquid oxidation products have been considered to be the key issues to influence the ablation resistance of UHTCs coatings. However, the effect of solid oxidation products on the ablation performance is not clear.

Effect of fiber-oriented direction on mechanical and ablative performance of C/C-HfC-ZrC-SiC composites

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies, 2020
C/C-HfC-ZrC-SiC composites are fabricated by precursor infiltration and pyrolysis process by using SiC, ZrC, and HfC precursors. With incorporation of ZrC-SiC ceramics, the ablation rates of the C/C-HfC-ZrC-SiC composites are one order magnitude lower ...
