Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Development of a statistical model for cervical cancer cell death with irreversible electroporation in vitro. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
The aim of this study was to develop a statistical model for cell death by irreversible electroporation (IRE) and to show that the statistic model is more accurate than the electric field threshold model in the literature using cervical cancer cells in ...

Laser ablation of carbon at the threshold of plasma formation

open access: yesApplied Physics A: Materials Science & Processing, 1999
The ionization of laser-ablated vapours with lasers producing ns duration pulses at various wavelengths has been studied in order to understand the mechanisms of the vapour–plasma transition. It has been established that there are several regimes characterizing the laser–target interaction which depend on laser intensity, wavelength, and pulse duration.

Picosecond-pulsed laser ablation of zinc: crater morphology and comparison of methods to determine ablation threshold [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Ablation of bulk polycrystalline zinc in air is performed with single and multiple picosecond laser pulses at a wavelength of 1030 nm. The relationships between the characteristics of the ablated craters and the processing parameters are analyzed ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Temporal-Spatial Measurement of Surface Morphological Evolution Time in Nanosecond Laser Irradiation on the Copper Film

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2022
In this research, the pump-probe imaging technology and the time-resolved transmittance measurements are used to investigate the transient time scale of the oxidation area, the dewetted melt pool, and the ablation-induced mass transport, and their ...

Multimodality Treatment with Conventional Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization and Radiofrequency Ablation for Unresectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background/Aims: To evaluate the efficacy of multimodality treatment consisting of conventional transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in patients with non-resectable and non-ablatable hepatocellular carcinoma ...

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Numerical Modeling of Excimer Laser Curved Surface Ablation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Laser ablation has been widely used in the fabrication of miniature parts. The technique is also used in the fabrication of micro lens or micro-curved surfaces which find potential applications in various optical, bio- medical, electronics, MEMS ...
