A Principled Framework for Mendelian Randomization in Oral Health Research

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This methodological article provides a clear and accessible overview of Mendelian randomization for oral health researchers, emphasizing the core assumptions needed for credible causal inference. Focusing on applications in oral health, particularly periodontitis, it highlights both the strengths and limitations of the study design in order to support ...

Identification of 160 cases of difficult ABO blood group typing with forward typing as O group

open access: yesZhongguo shuxue zazhi
[Objective] To accurately determine ABO blood groups through serological and molecular biological tests in patients whose forward typing was group O but who showed weak antibodies on one side of reverse typing, thereby ensuring precise transfusion ...

Evaluation of point‐of‐care versus laboratory antiglobulin‐enhanced major crossmatch testing in cats

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, EarlyView.
Objectives It is recommended that all cats, regardless of transfusion history, undergo major crossmatch prior to blood product administration to decrease the likelihood of immunological transfusion reactions. A reliable and user‐friendly point‐of‐care crossmatch test would help make crossmatch testing more accessible.

A Population Pharmacokinetic Model of Gentamicin in Hospitalized Neonatal Foals

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Information on safe and effective gentamicin dosing in foals is limited. This study aimed to provide guidance regarding optimal dosing regimens by means of a population pharmacokinetic (popPK) model. Gentamicin plasma concentration of 290 samples from 72 hospitalized foals (≤ 14 days old), treated with intravenous (IV) gentamicin, was measured

All in the family: Kidney donation in aging Japan

open access: yesMedical Anthropology Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract This article examines the ethical and cultural logics shaping living donor kidney transplantation in Japan, where donation is restricted to kin and deceased donation remains rare. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in a Tokyo‐area hospital, it analyzes how Japan's kin‐based transplantation regime contrasts with the utilitarian model dominant in

Blood groups: In Health and Diseases

open access: yesResearch in Molecular Medicine, 2015
ABO blood type antigens are polymorphic, inherited structures presented on the surface of red blood cells. Although ABO blood group antigens is the most important antigens in transfusion medicine, its main role is not clearly clarified.

Phototherapies mediated by metallic nanoparticles and near‐infrared radiation in skin cancer: A systematic review

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Recent studies demonstrate that near‐infrared (NIR—750–980 nm)‐mediated photodynamic (PDT) and photothermal (PTT) therapies, combined with metallic nanoparticles (MNPs), show promising results against skin cancer, particularly melanoma, in both in vitro and in vivo models.
