Uncertainties in above ground tree biomass estimation

Journal of Forestry Research, 2020
Models of above-ground tree biomass have been widely used to estimate forest biomass using national forest inventory data. However, many sources of uncertainty affect above-ground biomass estimation and are challenging to assess. In this study, the uncertainties associated with the measurement error in independent variables (diameter at breast height ...

Contrasting above-ground biomass balance in a Neotropical rain forest [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Vegetation Science, 2010
Question: What are the relative roles of tree growth, mortality and recruitment in variations of aboveground biomass in tropical forests? Location: Paracou, French Guiana. Methods: We quantified the contribution of growth, recruitment and mortality to total biomass of stands (trees DBH _ 10 cm) in six 6.25-ha permanent plots over 16 yr.

Dynamic analysis and modeling of Forest above-ground biomass

2014 IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2014
Estimating forest above-ground biomass (AGB) and monitoring its variation are relevant for sustainable forest management, monitoring global change, carbon accounting, particularly for the Qilian Mountains (QMs), a water resource protection zone. In this work, the results of above-ground biomass (AGB) estimates from Landsat Thematic Mapper 5 (TM) images

On spatial variability of above-ground forest biomass

Biomass and Bioenergy, 1996
Abstract The topography-related variation and plot-to-plot variation of above-ground forest biomass in a central Appalachian watershed and in a southeast Australian watershed and its surroundings were compared. The Appalachian site was covered with typical Appalachian hardwoods, ca 85 years old, and the Australian site was covered with an eucalyptus ...

Above ground biomass (AGB) product using GCOM-C1

2014 IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2014
Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is going to launch new Earth observation satellite GCOM-C1 in 2016. The core sensor of GCOM-C1, Second Generation Global Imager (SGLI) has a set of along track slant viewing Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer (VNR).

Land cover mapping and above ground biomass estimation in China

2016 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2016
Land cover is an important part of ecosystem change and driving factors, while above ground biomass also plays an important role in carbon cycling. Supported by object-oriented classification technology, the land cover data of China (ChinaCover) in 2010 have been produced using Landsat TM/ETM and HJ-1 satellite data of 30m resolution, combined with a ...

Pantropical trends in mangrove above-ground biomass and annual litterfall

Oecologia, 1993
A major paradigm in biosphere ecology is that organic production, carbon turnover and, perhaps, species diversity are highest at tropical latitudes, and decrease toward higher latitudes. To examine these trends in the pantropical mangrove forest vegetation type, we collated and analysed data on above-ground biomass and annual litterfall for these ...

Above-ground biomass functions for Scots pine in Lithuania

Biomass and Bioenergy, 2007
This study presents biomass functions applicable to Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) on Arenosols in Lithuania, and exemplifies the potential biomass removal from Scots pine stands during thinnings. Scots pine is the most common tree species on Arenosols in Lithuania. Stands of ages 10, 20, 40, 50 and 65 years were chosen for the biomass study.

Sar Interferometry For Estimating Above-Ground Biomass Of Savanna Woodlands In Belize

IGARSS 2008 - 2008 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2008
Tropical savannas cover 20% of the Earth's land surface and are important ecosystems in the global Carbon cycle due to their high productivity. This paper evaluates the capability of different shortwave synthetic aperture radar interferometry (InSAR) data for estimating above-ground biomass of the woody vegetation in heterogeneous tropical savanna ...

Retrieval of forest above ground biomass using automatic KNN model

2016 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2016
Forest is an important component of terrestrial ecosystems, so it is necessary to estimate the forest aboveground biomass (AGB) accurately in order to reduce the uncertainty of the carbon stock in forest ecosystem. In this study, a fast, efficient and automatic method has been proposed, called as Automatic KNN(AKNN).
