A nonmineralized approach to abrasion-resistant biomaterials [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2007
The tooth-like mouthparts of some animals consist of biomacromolecular scaffolds with few mineral components, making them intriguing paradigms of biostructural materials. In this study, the abrasion resistance of the jaws of one such animal, the bloodworm Glycera dibranchiata , has been ...

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Abrasion resistant characteristics of UHPC based on high-speed underwater method: Efficiency, process, evaluation, and mechanisms

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Abrasion damage is a major cause of reduced service life in hydraulic structures such as bridge piers, dams, and hydroelectric stations. Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) exhibits excellent abrasion resistance and has great potential for application

Experimental Investigation on Hydroabrasive Erosion of Steel Fiber UHPC and Rubber UHPC

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2020
Steel fiber ultrahigh performance concrete (UHPC) and rubber ultrahigh performance concrete (UHPC) adopt the methods of “rigidity overcomes rigidity” and “softness overcomes rigidity,” respectively, to resist the abrasion and cavitation erosion caused by

Property maps for abrasion resistance of materials [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2007
Using mechanics models of contacting surfaces under both normal and tangential loads, a mechanistic framework has been developed for assessing material resistance to initiation of abrasive damage. Solutions are presented for the critical loads to initiate yielding and cracking at blunt contacts, as well as those to attain a prescribed plastic ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Underwater abrasion of steel fiber-reinforced self-compacting concrete

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2019
Hundreds of tons of concrete may be ruined due to the abrasion erosion phenomenon that takes place in several hydraulic structures. Such unfavorable action can impose high maintenance costs and reduce the life span of these structures.
