A rare case report on infratemporal, masticator and parapharyngeal space infection secondary to decayed upper wisdom tooth

open access: yesJournal of Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery
Introduction: Space infections of infratemporal and temporal spaces are rare. These spaces rarely present as the primary space. An infection here could migrate to cavernous sinus through the pterygoid plexus or into the orbit through the valveless ...

Brain Abscess [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 1997
The past 20 years have seen major advances in the diagnosis and management of brain abscess, with a corresponding improvement in the survival rates. The advances in radiographic scanning, the availability of new antimicrobials, and the development of novel surgical techniques have all contributed to the decreases in associated morbidity and mortality ...

A Microbial Lipid‐ATP Synthase Axis Fuels NK Cell Antitumor Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study focuses on the mechanism by which gut microbiota‐derived outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) regulate NK cell antitumor activity. B. intestinalis is identified to decrease extra‐intestinal tumor growth via its OMVs enriched in sphingosine (SP).

A Keratinocyte‐Mast Cell NF‐κB2/CXCL2/IL‐6 Amplification Loop Enhances Cutaneous Antifungal Defense Against C. albicans

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mast cells (MCs), key innate immune sentinels at the host–environment interface, serve as primary responders to invading pathogens. However, their specific contribution to host defense against cutaneous Candida albicans (C. albicans) infection and their synergy with other immune and non‐immune cells remain poorly understood. Here, we show that

Nodule‐type pneumonitis mimicking lung abscess or tumor recurrence on chest computed tomography identified as osimertinib‐induced pneumonitis: A case report

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, 2022
Osimertinib‐induced pneumonitis usually manifests as ground glass opacities (GGO) on chest computed tomography (CT) scans. Here, we encountered a case involving a 42‐year‐old woman who had nodule‐type pneumonitis mimicking lung abscess or tumor ...

Epidural abscesses [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Anaesthesia, 2006
Until recently epidural abscess was considered a rare, almost theoretical, complication of central nerve block, but anecdotal reports suggest that this is no longer the case. Thus a review of the risk factors, pathogenesis, clinical features and outcome of this condition is appropriate, the primary aim being to make recommendations on best anaesthetic ...

Epithelial TRIM27 Inhibits Intestinal Inflammation in Ulcerative Colitis by the USP7/TRIM27‐IKK Double Negative‐Feedback

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The E3 ubiquitin ligase tripartite motif 27 (TRIM27) is a negative regulator of NF‐κB activation and the innate immune response, and TRIM27 deficiency significantly impairs dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)‐induced colitis. The function of TRIM27 in intestinal epithelial cells (IECs), the mechanism by which TRIM27 inhibits the NF‐κB pathway and its

Health‐related quality of life following total minimally invasive, hybrid minimally invasive or open oesophagectomy: a population‐based cohort study

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
All patients operated for oesophageal cancer in Sweden from 2013 to April 2018 were identified, and 246 patients were recruited to this population‐based nationwide Swedish study. The results show that longitudinal health‐related quality of life after minimally invasive oesophagectomy was similar to that of the open surgical approach.
