Genetics of absence epilepsy in rats
Behavior Genetics, 1990All rats of the WAG inbred strain show electrophysiological and behavioral phenomena reminiscent of human absence epilepsy. To study the genetic architecture of this kind of epilepsy, WAG rats were cross bred with inbred ACI rats which show no signs of epilepsy.

Epilepsy with myoclonic absences in siblings
Brain and Development, 2014Epilepsy with myoclonic absences (EMAs) is a distinct form of childhood epilepsy characterized by a peculiar seizure type that identifies this condition. To describe the clinical, electroencephalographic features, treatment strategies and outcome in this first case series of two siblings with normal intelligence presenting with EMAs.Both siblings ...

Absence in childhood absence epilepsy
Neurology, 2013Clinicians typically breathe a sigh of relief when they make the diagnosis of childhood absence epilepsy. The history is classic-a normal young child with myriad brief periods of staring. The clinic visit is powerful when the phenomena are replicated by having the child hyperventilate. Finally, the EEG is definitive.

Longterm Follow-Up of Childhood Epilepsy with Absences - I. Epilepsy with Absences at Onset
Neuropediatrics, 1985The purpose of the follow-up study was to determine whether modern therapy with ethosuximide and/or valproate with/without phenobarbitone and its derivatives improves the longterm prognosis of absence epilepsy as compared to formerly used treatments. The patient population consisted of 194 cases (88 boys, 106 girls) with spike wave epilepsy starting ...

ABSENCE SEIZURES | Thalamocortical Synchronization and Absence Epilepsy
2009Generalized spike-and-wave (SW) discharges are often associated with periods of impaired consciousness (i.e., withabsence seizures) and reflect thalamocortical oscillations similar to those involved in sleep spindles, but at a lowerfrequency. Both cortical and thalamic neuronal networks contribute to SWdischarge.

Focality in childhood absence epilepsy
Neurological ResearchChildhood absence epilepsy (CAE) has a typical electroencephalography (EEG) pattern of generalized 3 Hz spike and wave discharges (SWD). Focal interictal discharges were also documented in a small number of documents. The aim was to investigate the amplitudes of interictal 3 Hz SWD within the 1st second in drug-naïve CAE patients.
