Absolute auditory threshold: testing the absolute
European Journal of Neuroscience, 2017AbstractThe mechanisms underlying the detection of sounds in quiet, one of the simplest tasks for auditory systems, are debated. Several models proposed to explain the threshold for sounds in quiet and its dependence on sound parameters include a minimum sound intensity (‘hard threshold’), below which sound has no effect on the ear.

Absolute Pitch May Not Be So Absolute
Psychological Science, 2013Most people cannot name the musical note that corresponds to a particular pitch without being provided a reference note, but those people with absolute pitch (AP) can do this accurately. Early experience during a developmental period is often thought to convey identity and stability of the note categories in people with AP, but the plasticity of these ...

Absoluteness of formulas is a notion occurring in the study of transitive models of set theory. In this paper absoluteness will be tried to be studied as a condition on constants of set theory as for some sense of real existence, i.e. among the ``very obscure'' sets we want the absolute ones classify as ``less obscure''.

On absolute riesz and absolute Nörlund summability
Periodica Mathematica Hungarica, 1992A study of the inclusion problem for \(| N,p|\subset| R,\lambda,k|\), \(k>0\), is taken up and a general theorem involving monotone functions \(p\) and \(\lambda\) is given. This theorem thus provides a counterpart of the theorem for the inclusion \(| R,\lambda,1|\subset| N,p|\) as given in [Indian J. Math. 7, 78-81 (1965; Zbl 0141.249); cf. also Rend.

Absolute Ungrammaticality [PDF]
Abstract Given the principles of optimality theory, there should be a grammatical output for every input. After all, of the possible outputs corresponding to a particular input, the one that is the most harmonic with respect to a set of ranked universal constraints is grammatical by definition.

The position that a composite error score is not an interpretable indicator of motor performance is supported and expanded. It is shown that Henry's E(2) statistic possesses the same deficiencies as A (2), and thus is equally invalid. Responses are made to a number of specific criticisms of the Schutz and Roy paper made by Henry.

Throughout this paper we use the Bourbaki [1] conventions for rings and modules: all rings are associative but not necessarily commutative and have a 1; all modules are unital. Our purpose is to extend and simplify some recent results of Maddox [7], Megibben [8], Enochs [3], and the author [5] on absolutely pure modules by introducing several new ...

On the assumption that in Marx already the humanist heritage becomes problematic, Nancy explores Marx’s notion of “value itself” in view of a notion of value that is no longer measurable in terms of equivalence, and which, by uncoupling “world” and “laboring humanity,” becomes the distinctive mark of a world in which being-together is based on the ...
