Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

DEFECT MIGRATION IN SOLIDS - MICROSCOPIC CALCULATION OF DIFFUSION RATES [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Diffusion includes some of the commonest processes on an atomic scale, in which uncorrelated atomic jumps bring about changes in solids. The many predictions of activation energies characterising the temperature dependence of diffusion have high accuracy

Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

The relationship between IR, optical, and UV extinction [PDF]

open access: yes
An analysis is presented for the variability of absolute IR, optical, and UV extinction, A(sub lambda), derived through the ratio of total-to-selective extinction, R, for 31 lines of sight for which reliable UV extinction parameters were derived.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

From Empirical to More Precise Correction: Multidimensional Performance Evaluation of QTc Formulas in a Cohort of Healthy Asian Youth

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background The Bazett formula remains widely used for QT interval corrected for heart rate (HR) despite its limitations, yet its performance in healthy Asian youth is poorly characterized, necessitating a systematic evaluation against alternatives ...

Growth in East Java : Convergence or Divergence ? [PDF]

open access: yes
This study try to identify the â-convergence process among regions in East Java using cross-section data of 30 regions for period 1983-2001, taking into account the presence of spatial heterogeneity and spatial dependence.

Absolute time-dependent risk of hospital-acquired venous thromboembolism in children

open access: yesThrombosis Research
Absolute time-dependent risk of hospital-acquired venous thromboembolism (HA-VTE) is essential to evaluate the net clinical benefit of pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis. The multicenter Children's Hospital Acquired Thrombosis (CHAT) risk assessment model (RAM) identified risk factors for pediatric HA-VTE but was not designed to predict this risk.
