Research on Absolute Distance Measurement

2019 2nd World Conference on Mechanical Engineering and Intelligent Manufacturing (WCMEIM), 2019
Using frequency sweep interference to measure distance, which is an effective new method. In the process of theoretical derivation, this paper is based on the principle of interference of light to establish a functional relationship between distance and phase.

Measurements of absolute long distances

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
The production of large components, e. g. in aerospace industries, requires flexible and yet highly precise measurement techniques to determine absolute lengths of up to one hundred metres. Two different approaches are presented in this paper. One is based on a time-of-flight measurement, using a femtosecond frequency comb as an advanced modulator.

Absolute Distance Measurements Using a Noisy Interferometer

CLEO/Europe Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 1998
The spectrum of white light passing through a Michelson interferometer develops a sinusoidal modulation, the frequency of which is determined by the path difference between the interferometer arms. Dispersive white light interferometry is capable of measuring relatively large distances (hundreds of µm) with high precision, and without moving parts ...

Tunable Laser Diode for Absolute Distance Measurements

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe, 1996
Tunable and narrow linewidth semiconductor lasers are useful in variety of measurement such as a spectroscopy1 and heterodyne optical communication system. Our application is to use this tunable laser diode for absolute distance measurement. At first we have developped an external cavity in the Liftman configuration, composed by a commercial laser ...

Absolute distance measurements by variable wavelength interferometry

Applied Optics, 1981
This paper describes a laser interferometer which provides absolute distance measurements using tunable lasers. An active feedback loop system, in which the laser frequency is locked to the optical path length difference of the interferometer, is used to tune the laser wavelengths.

Absolute distance measurement using femtosecond laser

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
Possibilities of using recently-developed femtosecond pulse lasers for advanced precision length metrology are investigated. Special emphasis is placed on the use of femtosecond lasers particularly for absolute distance measurements with sub-micrometer accuracy over extensive ranges.

Absolute distance measurement with an optical feedback interferometer

Applied Optics, 1998
An important use of the self-mixing effect inside a frequency-modulated single-mode laser diode is in laser velocimetry and range-finding applications. The optical beam reflected by a target and injected into the laser diode cavity modulated by a reshaped current is mixed with the light inside the cavity, causing variations of the optical output power.
