Absolute and Precise Terahertz-Wave Radar Based on an Amplitude-Modulated Resonant-Tunneling-Diode Oscillator

open access: yesPhotonics, 2018
We present the principle of a terahertz-wave radar and its proof-of-concept experimental verification. The radar is based on a 522 GHz resonant-tunneling-diode oscillator, whose terahertz output power can be easily modulated by superimposing the ...

Location of triple-negative breast cancers: comparison with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancers on MR imaging. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
There has been a major need to better understand the biological characteristics of triple-negative breast cancers. Compared with estrogen receptor (ER)-positive cancers, several magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings have been reported as ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Nanometer-scale absolute laser ranging: exploiting a two-mode interference signal for high accuracy distance measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
International audienceAbsolute distance measurement with accuracy below the micron scale is important in astronomical optical interferometry. We present here an absolute laser rangefinder which relies on the detection of a two mode interference signal ...

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

High-accuracy determination of the neutron flux in the new experimental area n_TOF-EAR2 at CERN [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A new high flux experimental area has recently become operational at the n_TOF facility at CERN. This new measuring station, n_TOF-EAR2, is placed at the end of a vertical beam line at a distance of approximately 20m from the spallation target.

An Inkjet‐Printed Platinum‐Based Temperature Sensing Element on Polyimide Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An inkjet‐printed, meander‐structured, nanoparticle platinum‐based resistive temperature sensors on polyimide substrates are demonstrated as proof‐of‐concept. Optimized sintering at 250°C enables stable conductive structures. The Pt100‐ and Pt1000‐type sensors exhibit linear resistance–temperature characteristics with stable TCR in the 20°C–80°C range,

Rapid directional change degrades GPS distance measurement validity during intermittent intensity running.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) for quantifying athletic performance is common in many team sports. The effect of running velocity on measurement validity is well established, but the influence of rapid directional change is not well ...

Development of a Method for Fraud Severity Measurement Based On Usage Profiling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The nature of fraud has changed from cloning fraud to subscription fraud, which makes specialized detection methodologies inadequate. Instead, the focus is on the detection methodologies that based on the subscriber’s calling activity or calling ...
