A Differential X-Ray Gunn-Peterson Test Using a Giant Cluster Filament

open access: yes, 1999
Using CCD detectors onboard the forthcoming X-ray observatories Chandra and XMM, it is possible to devise a measurement of the absolute density of heavy elements in the hypothetical warm gas filling intercluster space.

Prognostic Value of Neurofilament Light Chain and Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein in ALD‐Related Myelopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background X‐linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X‐ALD) is a neurometabolic disorder caused by pathogenic variants in ABCD1, leading to slowly progressive spinal cord disease in nearly all affected men. Sensitive biomarkers to quantify disease severity and predict progression are needed for clinical care and trial design.

Dosimetric validation for an automatic brain metastases planning software using single-isocenter dynamic conformal arcsDosimetric validation for an automatic brain metastases planning software using single-isocenter dynamic conformal arcs. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
An automatic brain-metastases planning (ABMP) software has been installed in our institution. It is dedicated for treating multiple brain metastases with radiosurgery on linear accelerators (linacs) using a single-setup isocenter with noncoplanar dynamic

Clinical Impact of NOTCH3 Variant Location After First Stroke in CADASIL

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Despite its monogenic origin, Cerebral Autosomal Dominant Arteriopathy with Subcortical Infarcts and Leukoencephalopathy exhibits marked variability in clinical expression and severity. Variants in the NOTCH3 gene, within epidermal growth factor‐like repeat domains 1–6 or 7–34, are known to influence disease onset, but their impact ...

Absolute distance measurement by dual-comb nonlinear asynchronous optical sampling

open access: yesOptics Express, 2014
A dual-comb nonlinear asynchronous optical sampling method is proposed to simplify determination of the time interval and extend the non-ambiguity range in absolute length measurements. Type II second harmonic generation facilitates curve fitting in determining the time interval between adjacent pulses. Meanwhile, the non-ambiguity range is extended by

Obesity subtypes and longitudinal trajectories of function over 7‐years of follow‐up: data from the Multicenter Osteoarthritis Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Background Obesity, defined by BMI ≥30kg/m2, is a risk factor for functional limitations in people with knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, function varies among such individuals. Our objective was to evaluate the implications of obesity subtypes on longitudinal patterns of physical functioning in people with or at risk for knee OA.

An Improved Data Processing Algorithm for Spectrally Resolved Interferometry Using a Femtosecond Laser

open access: yesSensors
Spectrally resolved interferometry utilizing a femtosecond laser is widely employed for absolute distance measurement. However, deviations in the output time pulse of the conventional algorithm through inverse Fourier transform are inevitable. Herein, an

High-accuracy determination of the neutron flux in the new experimental area n_TOF-EAR2 at CERN [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A new high flux experimental area has recently become operational at the n_TOF facility at CERN. This new measuring station, n_TOF-EAR2, is placed at the end of a vertical beam line at a distance of approximately 20m from the spallation target.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.
