Synthesising, using, and correcting for telluric features in high-resolution astronomical spectra

open access: yes, 2010
We present a technique to synthesise telluric absorption and emission features both for in-situ wavelength calibration and for their removal from astronomical spectra. While the presented technique is applicable for a wide variety of optical and infrared

Spectral Consequences of Deviation from Spherical Composition Symmetry in Type Ia Supernovae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We investigate the prospects for constraining the maximum scale of clumping in composition that is consistent with observed Type Ia supernova flux spectra.

SPECTRAL PROPERTIES OF TWO WATER-SOLUBLE MELANINS [PDF]

open access: yesBiotechnologia Acta
Aim. The work was purposed to study the spectral properties of two types of water-soluble melanins to clarify the nature of the optical absorption and emission centers in them. Materials and methods.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Orbital-resolved Soft X-Ray Spectroscopy in NaV2O5

open access: yes, 2002
We demonstrate that angle-resolved soft x-ray spectroscopy can resolve absorption by inequivalent oxygen sites and by different orbitals belonging to the same site in NaV2O5.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Full correction of scattering effects by using the radiative transfer theory for improved quantitative analysis of absorbing species in suspensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Sample-to-sample photon path length variations that arise due to multiple scattering can be removed by decoupling absorption and scattering effects by using the radiative transfer theory, with a suitable set of measurements.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Analysis of optical magnetoelectric effect in GaFeO_3

open access: yes, 2009
We study the optical absorption spectra in a polar ferrimagnet GaFeO_3. We consider the E1, E2 and M1 processes on Fe atoms. It is shown that the magnetoelectric effect on the absorption spectra arises from the E1-M1 interference process through the ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...
