VUV absorption spectra of water and nitrous oxide by a double-duty differentially pumped gas filter
The differentially pumped rare-gas filter at the end of the VUV beamline of the Swiss Light Source has been adapted to house a windowless absorption cell for gases. Absorption spectra can be recorded from 7 eV to up to 21 eV photon energies routinely, as

This study explores a process chain to produce dispersoid‐strengthened CuCr1Zr for applications requiring high strength and conductivity. Using gas‐atomized powder and copper‐plated alumina nanoparticles, additive manufacturing is performed via powder bed based additive manufacturing with green and red lasers, followed by heat treatment.

Relating the optical absorption coefficient of nanosheet dispersions to the intrinsic monolayer absorption [PDF]
The concentration of nanosheet suspensions is an important technological parameter which is commonly measured by optical spectroscopy using the absorption coefficient to transform absorbance into concentration. However for all 2D materials, the absorption coefficient is poorly known, resulting in potentially large errors in measured concentration. Here

An absorption spectrum amplifier for determining gas composition [PDF]
Compositions of gas samples are frequently studied by laser absorption spectroscopy. Sensitivity is improved by two orders of magnitude when absorption cell is placed inside an organic-dye laser ...

Baseline-free scanned-wavelength direct absorption spectroscopy: theoretical analysis and experimental validation [PDF]
Applicability and accuracy of traditional scanned-wavelength direct absorption spectroscopy (SDAS) diagnostic method is largely affected by combustion state such as temperature and pressure. To resolve this problem, an innovative baseline-free scanned-wavelength direct absorption spectroscopy (BF-SDAS) method is proposed in this work.

This perspective article explores an innovative powder metallurgical approach to producing high‐nitrogen steels by utilizing a mixture of stainless steel and Si3N4. This mixture undergoes hot isostatic pressing followed by direct quenching. The article also examines adapting this method to laser powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB/M) to overcome nitrogen ...

The CH3D Absorption Spectrum Near 1.58 μm: Extended Line Lists and Rovibrational Assignments
Monodeuterated methane (CH3D) contributes greatly to absorption in the 1.58 μm methane transparency window. The spectrum is dominated by the 3ν2 band near 6430 cm−1, which is observed in natural methane and used for a number of planetary applications ...

A novel approach for alloy development in laser powder bed fusion is introduced. Instead of producing massive samples of one composition at a time, prepressed powder bed samples produced from powder mixtures are processed. Guidelines for the selection of precursor powders are developed.

XANES determination of chromium oxidation states in glasses: comparison with optical absorption spectroscopy [PDF]
The oxidation state of chromium in glasses melted in an air atmosphere with and without refining agents was investigated by Cr K-edge X-ray Absorption Near-Edge Structure (XANES) and optical absorption spectroscopy. A good agreement in the relative proportion of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) is obtained between both methods.
