Handedness Shapes Children’s Abstract Concepts [PDF]

open access: yesCognitive Science, 2011
AbstractCan children’s handedness influence how they represent abstract concepts likekindnessandintelligence? Here we show that from an early age, right‐handers associate rightward space more strongly with positive ideas and leftward space with negative ideas, but the opposite is true for left‐handers.

An Abstract Concept of Optimal Implementation

open access: yesElectronic Notes in Theoretical Computer Science, 2003
AbstractIn previous works, we introduced Stable Deterministic Residual Structures (SDRSs), Abstract Reduction Systems with an axiomatized residual relation which model orthogonal term and graph rewriting systems, and Deterministic Family Structures (DFSs), which add an axiomatized notion of redex-family to capture known sharing concepts in the λ ...

Health‐Related Social Needs in Children With Sickle Cell Disease Are Associated With Worse Health‐Related Quality of Life

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Children with sickle cell disease (SCD) face multiple acute and chronic medical complications that may impact their quality of life as reported by patients themselves. Health‐related social needs (HRSNs), such as food and housing insecurity, are common in people with SCD, but the association between HRSNs and patient‐reported ...

Genomic Diversity and Clinical Variability in Pediatric Primary Cutaneous Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma: A Case Series

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma (pcALCL) is a rare pediatric CD30‐positive T‐cell lymphoproliferative disorder with an excellent prognosis, but its genomic drivers are poorly defined. We report three children with skin‐limited disease demonstrating striking molecular heterogeneity, including NPM::ALK, NUP214::FRK, and a novel ...

Primate memory, from simple associations to abstract concepts

open access: yesComptes Rendus Biologies, 2021
The hippocampus is a neural structure central to the formation of memories and wayfinding. To understand the neural mechanisms at work during memory formation over multiple episodes, Electrophysiological recordings show that neurons in the macaque ...

The Neural Development of an Abstract Concept of Number [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cognitive Neuroscience, 2009
Abstract As literate adults, we appreciate numerical values as abstract entities that can be represented by a numeral, a word, a number of lines on a scorecard, or a sequence of chimes from a clock. This abstract, notation-independent appreciation of numbers develops gradually over the first several years of life.

Are Fertility Preservation Procedures Before Gonadotoxic Therapy and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Feasible and Safe in Very Young Children? A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Fertility preservation (FP) is increasingly integrated into the care of pediatric patients exposed to gonadotoxic therapy or conditioning for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), yet perioperative data in infants and toddlers remain scarce.
