Nanorod dynamics in ac electric fields

Metal and semiconductor nanorods polarized by an external electric field tend to align parallel to this field. We derived the equation of motion for this alignment, taking into account electrostatic forces, thermal fluctuations and viscous resistance of the liquid the nanorods are suspended in.

Lifetime of Polymers in AC Electric Field

An explanation of the difference in the electric strengths of polymers in AC and DC electric fields has been suggested. Energy release due to the recombination of electrons and holes injected into a polymer dielectric is considered as a factor enhancing electrical aging of these dielectrics in AC electric field.

By using microfluidic chips, we investigate the stability regarding coalescence of droplet pairs under an electric field as a function of drop separation and ac field intensity. Three different regimes are found: stable, coalescence, and partial merging.

Phase Selection in Capillary Breakup in AC Electric Fields

We study the detachment of conductive aqueous drops in ambient oil from an electrode in the presence of ac electric fields. Making use of the electrowetting effect, we determine the charge of the detached sessile drops. Drops are found to be discharged at high ac frequency in line with earlier predictions.
