Reconfigurable assemblies of Janus rods in AC electric fields
Soft Matter, 2014We investigate the electric field-induced assembly of Janus colloids composed of silica rods patterned with gold patches in both side- and tip-coated motifs. These shape and chemically anisotropic particles assemble into reconfigurable chains, whose structure depends on patch location, AC electric field strength, and frequency.

Perception of local DC and AC electric fields in humans
Bioelectromagnetics, 2005AbstractThe goal of this study was to address some of the factors that contribute to the human ability to detect the presence of weak electric fields generated by direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) sources. An exposure chamber allowed us to expose a limited surface of the body (forearm and hand) to DC fields of up to 65 kV/m and AC fields

Polarization and interactions of colloidal particles in ac electric fields
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2008Micrometer-sized polystyrene particles form two-dimensional crystals in alternating current (ac) electric fields. The induced dipole-dipole interaction is the dominant force that drives this assembly. We report measurements of forces between colloidal particles in ac electric fields using optical tweezers and find good agreement with the point dipole ...

Two-particle dynamics on an electrode in ac electric fields
Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2002The relative motion between pairs of negatively charged latex particles 9.7 microm in diameter and deposited on an electrode was measured by optical microscopy and image analysis. At an rms field of approximately 30 V cm(-1), the two particles moved toward each other at frequencies below 500 Hz, but they separated at 1000 Hz.

Electric Fields on AC Composite Transmission Line Insulators
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2008This paper provides an overview of the electric field (E-field) distribution on transmission line composite insulators applied in alternating current applications. Factors that affect the E-field distribution are discussed as well as the influence of the E-field distribution on the short and long term performance.

Electric field measurement under AC/DC
2014 ICHVE International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application, 2014It's significant to measure electric field (referred as E-field) strength under AC/DC hybrid transmission lines. Compared with traditional metal instrument, optical sensors cause less distortion of the measured E-field, and have more potential in practical applications.

Separation of seed by‐products by an AC electric field
Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1984AbstractA method for separating constituents of the by‐products derived from agricultural processes offers the possibility of recovering their valuable components. Partial sorting by a unique electric field enriches the protein concentration in sunflower‐seed meal and cottonseed meal by removing objectionable components such as hulls or gossypol ...

Subharmonics in Bi_12SiO_20 with an applied ac electric field
Optics Letters, 1992The appearance of subharmonics with the aid of an applied square-wave field is reported for the first time to our knowledge. It is shown that the intensity and the order of the subharmonics are dependent on the repetition rate of the square wave.

Transient electrohydrodynamics of a liquid drop in AC electric fields
The European Physical Journal E, 2018The transient behavior of a leaky dielectric liquid drop under a uniform AC electric field of small strength is investigated, using a closed form analytical solution. The drop settles to a quasi-steady state in a relaxation time that is set by the viscosities of the drop and the ambient fluid and the surface tension, and oscillates around a mean ...
