Synchronous motors for AC adjustable-speed drives

Conference Record of 1993 Annual Pulp and Paper Industry Technical Conference, 2002
Many power engineers have struggled with ideas of standard and special synchronous motor designs as those concepts relate to LCI (load commutators inverter) drives. Today many engineers accept the premise that LCI motors belong in a category unto themselves, different from 'standard' synchronous motors.

Control of Multiphase AC Motor Drives

2010
Three-phase AC motor has been used as the main driving machine for a very long period. The main reason for the use of three-phase machines has the availability of three-phase AC supply from the mains. However, with the availability of power electronic devices of high power rating, the control of drives is always from the inverter supplying power to the

Auto-tuning for sensorless AC motor drive systems

ISIE '99. Proceedings of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (Cat. No.99TH8465), 2003
This paper describes a set of automatic tuning schemes for speed sensorless vector controlled induction motors. The importance of a self-commissioning inverter for sensorless drive systems is highlighted and a new tuning method of parameters needed for a sensorless drive system is proposed and explained.

Intelligent VFD Drive Controller for AC Motors

International Journal on Science and Technology
Faults in industrial motor systems can affect energy efficiency, speed and increase unplanned downtimes. This paper proposes a model to show command with Python using VFD with the help of a machine learning approach for predictive maintenance and real-time fault detection.

Fuzzy controller in AC servo motor drive

Seventh International Conference on Electrical Machines and Drives, 1995
This paper presents the use of fuzzy control in AC servomotor drive applications. Comparison of performances obtained with an usual proportional integral (PI) controller and a fuzzy controller in both current and speed loops are presented. Simulation with the Matlab simulink package permits a comparison of the obtained responses to a reference step ...

Effects of voltage sags on AC motor drives

1997 IEEE Annual Textile, Fiber and Film Industry Technical Conference, 2002
Voltage sags are normally described by magnitude variation and duration. In addition to these quantities, sags are also characterized by unbalance (asymmetry), nonsinusoidal waveshapes, and phase angle shift (phase jump). These factors are important for determining the behavior of AC motor drives during sags.

Three-Phase Z-Source AC-AC Converter for Motor Drives

2006 CES/IEEE 5th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, 2006
This paper presents a Z-source ac-ac converter system and control for general-purpose motor drives. The Z-source ac-ac converter system employs a unique LC network to suppress the over-current and surge voltage due to the shoot-through or the open-circuit of the two switches.

Pulse width modulated inverter for AC motor drives

1976 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 1976
We have developed a set of pulse width modulated inverter, lOkVA, 200V, 1200Hz (max) and have controlled induction motors, 5.5kW. This paper deals with the test results of this set and with our theoretical study of PWM inverter modulation techniques. In this paper, we also describe their operations and characteristics.

VSS robust control techniques for AC motor drives

Proceedings IECON '91: 1991 International Conference on Industrial Electronics, Control and Instrumentation, 2002
Robust control of AC asynchronous motor drives in the presence of strong parameter uncertainties is considered. Due to the different bandwidths associated with the controlled variables, a cascade structure is used. A multivariable sliding mode closed-loop controller with a hysteresis region is used to transform the voltage source inverter into a ...
