Abstract The cercaria of Stephanostomum caducum (Looss 1901) Manter 1934, develops in redia in the marine prosobranch Natica alderi. The ocelate cercaria has two alternating rows of oral spines and a stylet. The distal part of the tail is able to invaginate and function as a sucker.

Stephanostomum noumeaense n. sp. from Carangoides dinema Bleeker is described with an uninterrupted ring of 34-42 circum-oral spines.

Experimental proof is presented that Cercaria neptunae Lebour is the cercaria of Stephanostomum baccatum and that the gastropods Buccinum undatum (L.) and Neptunea antiqua (L.) both act as its first intermediate hosts in the north‐east Atlantic. Heavy experimental infections were associated with mortalities of 0+plaice Pleuronectes platessa (L.).

Tormopsolus orientalis Yamaguti, 1934, is redescribed from Seriola dumerili from off Corsica, Majorca and Aguilas, SE Spain. The vitellarium is interrupted at the level of the ovary and both testes, and a bipartite seminal vesicle is found in many specimens. Oral sucker papillae are always seen.
