Understanding the dynamic nature of plant lipid anabolic and catabolic metabolism is key to sustainable oilseed engineering

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 5, Page 2196-2214, March 2026.
Summary Plant‐derived oils are essential sources of reduced carbon and various fatty acid (FA) structures for food, biofuels, and the oleochemical industry. Despite extensive efforts, engineering mainstream oilseed crops to produce high levels of industrially valuable unusual FAs (UFAs) remains challenging.

Modelling the Climatic Suitability of Digitaria insularis, a Global Invasive Species, Under Climate Change Scenarios

open access: yesWeed Research, Volume 66, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT Grasses in the Poaceae family are major components of global ecosystems and agricultural systems, and their adaptive success has enabled some species to become highly competitive weeds. Digitaria insularis (sourgrass), a C4 perennial grass native to the Americas and now widely introduced elsewhere, has evolved herbicide resistance and poses an

AI-enhanced 3D-QSAR screening of fragment-based novel designed molecules targeting Phalaris minor ACCase

open access: yesCurrent Plant Biology
Acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase: EC 6.4.1.2) is a crucial enzyme for fatty acid synthesis in plants, particularly in the Graminae family, making it an ideal target for herbicides aimed at selective weed control in agriculture.

Label-free and redox proteomic analyses of the triacylglycerol-accumulating Rhodococcus jostii RHA1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The bacterium Rhodococcus jostii RHA1 synthesizes large amounts of triacylglycerols (TAG) under conditions of nitrogen starvation. To better understand the molecular mechanisms behind this process, we performed proteomic studies in this oleaginous ...

Crystal structure of fatty acid thioesterase A bound by 129 fragments provides diverse development opportunities

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 1, Page 151-168, January 2026.
Crystallographic fragment screening of A. thaliana FatA yielded 141 hits and along with orthogonal assays, this enables the target for rapid development of novel chemical matter to the currently available herbicides. Abstract BACKGROUND In order to alleviate the growing issue of herbicide resistance, diversification of the herbicide portfolio is ...

Poa annua becomes the first weed to evolve resistance to indaziflam applied preemergence and early‐postemergence

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 1, Page 539-551, January 2026.
We report the first confirmed global case of Poa annua evolving resistance to indaziflam applied both preemergence and early‐postemergence. Resistance intensified under cool temperatures, was not reversed by metabolic inhibitors, and was often linked to multiple resistance, underscoring urgent needs for integrated weed management.

Influence of herbicide doses on efficacy and yield in winter cereal on the example of blackgrass and loose silky-bentgrass

open access: yesJulius-Kühn-Archiv, 2016
Agriculture today is facing the challenge to both keeping the input of herbicides into nature at a low level and aiming for high yields while avoiding low efficacies caused by resistance evolution.

Regulatory network rewiring drives strain‐specific lipid accumulation response in Chlorella sorokiniana under nutrient starvation

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 125, Issue 1, January 2026.
SUMMARY Microalgae modulate lipid metabolism in response to nutrient stress, offering a promising avenue for sustainable biofuel production. However, a mechanistic understanding of the transcriptional programs driving triacylglycerol (TAG) accumulation remains limited, particularly in non‐model species.

Suscetibilidade comparativa a herbicidas pós-emergentes de biótipos de Digitaria ciliaris resistente e suscetível aos inibidores da ACCase Relative susceptibility to post-emergence herbicides of ACCase-resistant and susceptible biotypes of Digitaria ciliaris

open access: yesPlanta Daninha, 2006

Potential of CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Engineering for Biofuel Production From Economically Relevant Algae

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The worldwide energy demand continues to rise, while reliance on fossil fuels remains unsustainable due to global warming, declining reserves and rising oil prices. This has intensified the search for renewable alternatives. Among these, microscopic algae have emerged as a promising feedstock for third‐generation biofuels.
