Biomolecular ions in accelerators and storage rings
Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, 2004Recent experiments on biomolecules in accelerators and storage rings are reviewed. Topics included are measurements of geometrical cross sections of macromolecular ions, fragmentation of peptide and oligonucleotide ions after collisional electron transfer, lifetimes of excited ions, and radiative cooling.

Chromaticity in Strong Focusing Accelerators and Storage Rings
Communications in Theoretical Physics, 1982The chromaticity formulae with accuracy to the first-order in momentum deviation in strong focusing accelerators & storage rings have been derived. It has been found that the edge magnetic field effects must be taken into account, otherwise the resultant errors introduced will be appreciable which increase rapidly with the decrease in machine size ...

Cryogenic Current Comparator for Storage Rings and Accelerators
2016A Cryogenic Current Comparator (CCC) was developed for a non-destructive, highly sensitive monitoring of nA beams at the planned FAIR accelerator facility at GSI. The sensor part of the CCC was optimized for lowest possible noise-limited current resolution in combination with a high system bandwidth of about 200 kHz.

Polarized beams in accelerators and storage rings
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2001A general approach to the analysis of spin motion in realistic accelerator fields is presented. A method of finding the “spin closed orbit” and spin tune in arbitrary field configurations is given. It is shown that spin-orbital resonances perturb the spin motion and can cause depolarization. Methods of safe resonance crossing for protons are presented,

Coherent instability of betatron oscillations in accelerators and storage rings
Journal of Nuclear Energy. Part C, Plasma Physics, Accelerators, Thermonuclear Research, 1965The problem is discussed of the transverse stability of a beam of charged particles circulating in a focusing system of the ring-accelerator or storage-ring type. A dispersion relation is derived and analysed for the coherent vertical oscillations of the centre of mass of the beam.

Spin dynamics in accelerators and storage rings
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1988The understanding of charged particle orbital dynamics in an electromagnetic field is necessary for the acceleration and the storage of particles. The understanding of spin (or magnetic moment) dynamics is essential for the acceleration and the storage of polarized particle beams. In this paper we review the analysis of the dynamics of the spin and the

Charge exchange injection into accelerators and storage rings
Physics-Uspekhi, 2019Abstract The development of charge exchange injection technology at the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, mastering charge exchange injection at research centers worldwide, and the experimental observation, explanation, and damping of electron–proton instability (electron cloud ...

Collective instabilities in accelerator and storage rings
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1996We describe the initial discovery of collective beam instability in accelerator and storage rings, the work that was done in the 60’s to obtain a theory of these effects, and their impact on the developments of electron‐positron and proton‐proton colliders.

Accelerator complex of ion and electron storage rings
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2000Abstract An accelerator complex consisting of storage rings of ions and electrons with their booster synchrotron of combined-function type is proposed as one of the candidates of the facility for the new campus of Kyoto University. Maximum energies for ions and electrons are 290 and 1500 MeV, respectively.

Ultrahigh vacuum systems for storage rings and accelerators
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1987Because of the slow and expensive beam accumulation process for storage rings beam lifetimes must be of the order of days. So, high vacuums are essential in a storage ring design. Different vacuum systems, leak detection, and vacuum measurement are some of the instrumentation considered in this article.
