Instabilities in storage rings
Il Nuovo Cimento A, 1999The last generation of storage rings is designed to operate with low emittances (longitudinal and transverse) and rather high currents. Performances of these machines are limited by the collective effects. The interaction of a beam with the surrounding walls produces parasitic fields which, acting back on the beam, can lead to instability phenomena ...

A pair of intersecting storage rings will stack 28-BeV protons along the French border near Geneva, Switzerland. Construction of the rings, expected to cost 332 million Swiss francs, is scheduled to begin at CERN next summer.

The proposed photon storage ring (PhSR) is composed of an electron storage ring (ESR) and a group of mirrors surrounding the electron orbit. The ESR in this case is of a type having no straight sections. In this system, synchrotron radiations are reflected back by the mirror to intersect the electron orbit again, and are consequently accumulated ...

The Invention of the Storage Ring
1994At this point I would like to recall an important event of my Hamburg period. It happened during the autumn of 1943, on one of my vacation trips back to Norway. Ragnhild and I were staying in a hotel in a forest in Tuddal, near Telemarken, and Ragnhild unfortunately took rather ill with pneumonia.

At the international symposium on 'High energy accelerators' held at CERN, Geneva, in June 1956, proposals were made for the provision of colliding beam facilities. These are devices in which the collision energy, measured in the centre of mass system, would be the total energy of the individual particles in each beam.

The LSU Electron Storage Ring, the First Commercially-Built Storage Ring
1990The Brobeck Division of Maxwell Laboratories, Inc., is building the first industrially-produced storage ring. It will be located at Louisiana State University (LSU) at the Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD) in Baton Rouge. The purpose of this electron storage ring is to provide intense beams of x-rays to advance the state-of-the-art

Abstract A short presentation on the storage ring complex at Orsay is given. This includes the X-ray ring DCI and the VUV ring ACO. Particular emphasis is put on the new VUV dedicated ring Super ACO. A list of the goal parameters achieved during 3 months of commissioning is discussed with special emphasis on positron filling and its potential to meet

The generation of ultrashort synchrotron radiation pulses by laser-induced energy modulation of electrons and their subsequent transverse displacement (” femtoslicing”) was demonstrated at the Advanced Light Source in Berkeley. More recently, a femtoslicing facility was commissioned at BESSY II in Berlin, and another project is in progress at the Swiss

Abstract Storage ring Free Electron lasers (SRFEL) are reviewed: particular features of undergoing experiments are underlined. The understanding of the SRFEL, dynamics is under progress, especially for the analysis of the FEL interaction with the beam, involving the stored beam dynamics and for stability, which constitutes a critical issue for the ...

Synchrotron radiation sources are among the largest and most expensive scientific instruments ever built. At first glance, the scale and complexity of these facilities, as shown in Figs. 1.4 and 2.1, can be daunting. However, when we look “under the hood,” we find that they all have the same essential components, and furthermore, many of these ...
