Electron-Cloud Effects in past and future machines - walk through 50 years of Electron-Cloud studies

open access: yes, 2013
Past electron-cloud (e-cloud) observations, studies and mitigation techniques are quickly reviewed along with some ongoing code developments, the preceding ECLOUD workshops, recent contacts with the spacecraft community, the important role of Francesco ...

Soft X-ray reflectivity: from quasi-perfect mirrors to accelerator walls [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Reflection of light from surfaces is a very common, but complex phenomenon not only in science and technology, but in every day life. The underlying basic optical principles have been developed within the last five centuries using visible light available

Numerical calculation of transverse coupling impedances: Comparison to Spallation Neutron Source extraction kicker measurements

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2007
The study of beam dynamics and the localization of potential sources of instabilities are important tasks in the design of modern, high-intensity particle accelerators.

Electron Cloud Effects in Accelerators

open access: yes, 2012
We present a brief summary of various aspects of the electron-cloud effect (ECE) in accelerators. For further details, the reader is encouraged to refer to the proceedings of many prior workshops, either dedicated to EC or with significant EC contents ...

Smoluchowski approach to nonlinear Vlasov-Fokker-Planck equations: Stability analysis of beam dynamics and Haïssinski theory

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2006
For a class of Vlasov-Fokker-Planck equations that have frequently been used to examine beam dynamic instabilities in accelerators and storage rings, it is shown that the stability of stationary distributions can be determined by studying reduced models ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Symplectic Integration of Hamiltonian Systems using Polynomial Maps

open access: yes, 2001
In order to perform numerical studies of long-term stability in nonlinear Hamiltonian systems, one needs a numerical integration algorithm which is symplectic. Further, this algorithm should be fast and accurate.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Resistive wall wake for nonultrarelativistic beam in ring model

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams
The nonultrarelativistic wake function theory is not only applicable to proton or heavy ion accelerators, but with the emergence of new accelerator physics, it has been found to be equally applicable to electron accelerators such as the steady-state ...
