Enzymatic degradation of biopolymers in amorphous and molten states: mechanisms and applications

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review explains how polymer morphology and thermal state shape enzymatic degradation pathways, comparing amorphous and molten biopolymer structures. By integrating structure–reactivity principles with insights from thermodynamics and enzyme engineering, it highlights mechanisms that enable efficient polymer breakdown.

New digital low-level rf system for heavy-ion synchrotrons

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2011
In the scope of the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) project, several new synchrotrons and storage rings will be built. The existing heavy-ion synchrotron SIS18 has to be upgraded to serve as an injector for the FAIR accelerators. All this

Toward precision mass measurements of neutron-rich nuclei relevant to $r$-process nucleosynthesis

open access: yes, 2015
The open question of where, when, and how the heavy elements beyond iron enrich our Universe has triggered a new era in nuclear physics studies.\ Of all the relevant nuclear physics inputs, the mass of very neutron-rich nuclides is a key quantity for ...

The Impact of Tilburg Frailty on Poststroke Fatigue in First‐Ever Stroke Patients: A Cross‐Sectional Study With Unified Measurement Tools and Improved Statistics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Poststroke fatigue (PSF) and frailty share substantial overlap in their manifestations, yet previous research has yielded conflicting results due to the use of heterogeneous frailty assessment tools. Objective To evaluate the independent impact of frailty on PSF using a unified measurement system (Tilburg Frailty Indicator, TFI ...

Systems Analysis of Accelerator and Storage Ring Systems for Inertial Fusion [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 1977
A computerized systems model is being developed to help assess the relative merits of the various accelerator systems that appear able to meet the requirements for inertial fusion with high energy heavy ion beams. Assessment involves calculating the total cost and parameters that are critical to technical feasibility.

Meningovascular Inflammation in Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy‐Related Cortical Superficial Siderosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The role of inflammation in cortical superficial siderosis (cSS), a marker of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) linked to high hemorrhage risk, is unclear. We examined 15 patients with cSS using 3 T post‐contrast vessel wall MRI (VWI) and CSF analysis.

Symplectic orbit and spin tracking code for all-electric storage rings

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2015
Proposed methods for measuring the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the proton use an intense, polarized proton beam stored in an all-electric storage ring “trap.” At the “magic” kinetic energy of 232.792 MeV, proton spins are “frozen,” for example always

Background Thermal Contributions in Testing the Unruh Effect

open access: yes, 1994
We consider inertial and accelerated Unruh-DeWitt detectors moving in a background thermal bath and calculate their excitation rates. It is shown that for fast moving detectors such a thermal bath does not affect substantially the excitation probability.

Vacuum and Ultrahigh Vacuum for Particle Accelerators and Storage Rings [PDF]

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1974
Particle accelerators operate at pressures of about 10-7 Torr. Storage rings require 10-9 to 10-11 Torr. The maximum permissible pressure is determined by many perturbing interactions between beam particles and gas molecules. Proton storage rings have additional problems from interactions with layers of gas adsorbed on the chamber walls.

Serum Soluble Mediator Signatures of Lupus Nephritis: Histologic Features and Response to Treatment

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Lupus nephritis (LN) management remains challenging, and novel noninvasive biomarkers are needed. This study quantified serum soluble mediators in the Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) LN cohort to identify biomarkers of histologic features and treatment response.
