Beam energy scaling of ion-induced electron yield from K^{+} impact on stainless steel

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2006
Electron clouds limit the performance of many major accelerators and storage rings. Significant quantities of electrons result when halo ions are lost to beam tubes, generating gas which can be ionized and ion-induced electrons that can multiply and ...

Ferrite cavities

open access: yes, 2012
Ferrite cavities are used in synchrotrons and storage rings if the maximum RF frequency is in the order of a few MHz. We present a simple model for describing ferrite cavities.

Spin Motion and Resonances in Accelerators and Storage Rings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Some of the basic aspects of the spin dynamics of accelerators and storage rings are reviewed. Since the components of spin parallel and perpendicular to the particle velocity behave differently it is desirable to reformulate the equations of spin motion in a frame of reference that exhibits this difference explicitly.

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Transverse beam stacking injection system for synchrotron light source booster synchrotrons

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2011
Beam intensity is a key performance parameter for particle accelerators. Modern high-performance storage rings demand injectors that can deliver large currents per injection cycle, which translates to an increase in machine size and consumed power ...

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Understanding the Effect of Resistance Temperature Detector Temperature Controllers on Microstructural Alignment in Magnetic Freeze Casting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The effect of temperature controllers that are commonly used in freeze‐casting is investigated in this work. Temperature controllers are observed to generate a voltage in the slurry. Microstructural alignment and ultimate compressive strength data show this voltage to interfere with the ability to align the microstructure using magnetic fields ...

Can Ti‐Based MXenes Serve as Solid Lubricants for Brake Applications? A Tribological Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the first implementation of Ti‐based MXenes materials in brake pad friction composite material. The resulting composite material exhibits a 48% reduction in the wear rate; alongside significant improvements are observed for thermal and mechanical properties.

Method for calculating the longitudinal space-charge tune shift suitable for arbitrary bunch lengths

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams
The space-charge tune shift is a critical issue in circular proton, heavy-ion, and also low energy electron storage accelerators. Recently, some special electron rings with energies of several hundred MeV, nanometer-scale bunch lengths, and micrometer ...
