[Physical activity assessment using accelerometry].

open access: yesRevue d'epidemiologie et de sante publique, 2019
Physical activity is an important determinant of health in children and adults. Assessment of physical activity is therefore an important factor in the promotion of health and in several childhood and adulthood pathological situations. Physical activity can be estimated by various methods: pedometry, heart rate monitoring, questionnaires, the doubly ...

Pulmonary Obstruction and Age, Not Activity, Associate With Muscle Oxidative Impairment in Smokers With and Without COPD

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Low muscle oxidative capacity is an extrapulmonary manifestation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with unclear aetiology. We sought to characterize locomotor muscle oxidative capacity in never smokers and ever smokers with and without COPD and determine clinical and behavioural features associated with low muscle ...

The Role of MRI in Debunking the Fallacy of “Mild” Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Volume 63, Issue 2, Page 297-309, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is a prevalent yet often overlooked public health concern due to the absence of detectable abnormalities on CT or conventional MRI scans. Approximately 18.3%–31.3% of mTBI patients experience persistent symptoms 3–6 months post‐injury, despite normal imaging results, making diagnosis and treatment challenging.

The Association of Physical Activity During Pregnancy and Postpartum Weight Retention: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesObesity, Volume 34, Issue 2, Page 491-498, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to identify physical activity trajectories through pregnancy and examine associations with postpartum weight retention. Methods We included pregnancies from one health care system from 2009 to 2020. Data were collected from electronic health records and physical activity from self‐report before pregnancy and during ...

State‐space models and inference approaches for aquatic animal tracking with passive acoustic telemetry and biologging sensors

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 2, Page 418-434, February 2026.
Abstract Passive acoustic telemetry systems are widely deployed to track animals in aquatic environments. However, investments in integrative methods of data analysis have remained comparatively limited, with current workflows typically considering individual movements separately from space use, home ranges and residency.

Leveraging machine learning and accelerometry to classify animal behaviours with uncertainty

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 2, Page 567-584, February 2026.
Abstract Animal‐worn sensors have revolutionised the study of animal behaviour and ecology. Accelerometers, which measure changes in acceleration across planes of movement, are increasingly being used in conjunction with machine learning models to classify animal behaviours across taxa and research questions.

Blood Cell Mitochondrial Respiration Increases With Age and Varies by Sex in Healthy Adults

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 2, February 2026.
Using samples from the San Diego Nathan Shock Center Clinical Cohort, we found that blood cell bioenergetic capacity is generally positively associated with age and sex dependent. These findings highlight the importance of biological context in bioenergetics research. Created in BioRender. Lab, M. (2025) https://BioRender.com/pvgt48f.

A National Sample of Swedish Young Children Shows Sociodemographic Variations in Physical Activity and Screen Time

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, Volume 115, Issue 2, Page 298-308, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim To investigate physical activity (PA), sedentary time, and screen time by age, sex, and parental education in a national sample of young children. Method This cross‐sectional study, conducted 2021–2024, of Swedish children recruited via their parents, included 1078 children aged 18 months, mean 1.5 ± 0.1 years, and 750 aged four, mean 4.1 ±

Vector atom accelerometry in an optical lattice

open access: yesScience Advances
Two kinds of multidimensional atom interferometers are demonstrated that are capable of measuring both the magnitude and direction of applied inertial forces. These interferometers, built from ultracold Bose-Einstein condensed rubidium atoms, use an original design that operates entirely within the Bloch bands of an optical lattice ...

Household Food Insecurity Is Associated With Higher Adiposity Over Time Among Adolescents in Louisiana

open access: yesPediatric Obesity, Volume 21, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Few studies have examined how household food insecurity may impact longitudinal changes in adiposity among adolescents. Objective We investigated the link between household food insecurity and 2‐year change in adolescent adiposity, with sex as a potential moderator.
