ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Role of gene body methylation in acclimatization and adaptation in a basal metazoan

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2018
Significance Whether epigenetics can facilitate persistence of acquired adaptive traits remains hotly debated. Here we use a primitive multicellular animal, a reef-building coral, to address this question for gene body methylation, which is a common ...

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Effects of soil temperature and precipitation on nodulation intensity of some soybean (Glycine max. (L.) Merr.) cultivars

open access: yesActa Agrobotanica, 2013
Root-nodule formation in soybean varieties from maturity groups: '00' and '0' was studied in 1976 - 1978. The highest number and dry weight of root nodules was found in variety 'Evans' while cultivar 'Altona' was the poorest in this respect.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

Haplotype-based association mapping of genomic regions associated with Zymoseptoria tritici resistance using 217 diverse wheat genotypes

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background Septoria tritici blotch (STB) is considered to be one of the most destructive foliar wheat diseases and is caused by Zymoseptoria tritici. The yield losses are severe and in Northwestern Europe can reach up to 50%.

Effect of location on starch content and tuber texture characteristics in potato breeding lines and cultivars

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Scandinavica. Section B, Soil and Plant Science, 2017
The texture of boiled potato tubers is one of the most important quality traits. The variation of tuber texture is usually examined in relationship with dry matter or starch content.

Selections from barley landrace collected in Libya as new sources of effective resistance to powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis f.sp. hordei)

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2002
Powdery mildew on barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) caused by the pathogen Blumeria graminis f.sp. hordei occurs worldwide and can result in severe yield loss.
