Astigmatism and Pseudoaccommodation in Pseudophakic Eyes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
noAdvanced IOLs with circumferential zones of different power provide pseudoaccommodation. We investigated the potential for power variation with meridian, namely astigmatism, to provide pseudo-accommodation. With appropriate power and axis orientations,

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Ocular screening tests of elementary school children [PDF]

open access: yes
This report presents an analysis of 507 abnormal retinal reflex images taken of Huntsville kindergarten and first grade students. The retinal reflex images were obtained by using an MSFC-developed Generated Retinal Reflex Image System (GRRIS ...

Measuring glucose content in the aqueous humor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Many diabetics must measure their blood glucose levels regularly to maintain good health. In principle, one way of measuring the glucose concentration in the human body would be by measuring optically the glucose content of the aqueous humor in the eye ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Ultrasound biomicroscopy insights: Ciliary body changes during accommodation in young adults

open access: yesThe Pan-American Journal of Ophthalmology
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate changes in the ciliary body area (CBA) at rest and during accommodation in young patients, as measured by ultrabiomicroscopy (UBM).

Sensory control of ocular accommodation

open access: yes, 2016
The investigations described in this thesis have examined how, with particular reference to optical cues, the retinal image is analysed by the brain so as to generate the appropriate signals for controlling accommodation. This line of research involved behavioural studies on trained monkeys (Macaca mulatto), human psychophysical studies, mathematical ...

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...
